[TV리포트=이윤희 기자] BLACKPINK’s ‘Ice Cream’ entered UK’s Official Singles Chart Top 40.

According to UK’s Official Charts announced on the 4th(local time), BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s ‘Ice Cream’ was ranked at no. 39 on the Official Singles Chart Top 40.

Known as one of the two biggest Pop charts along with US Billboard, Official Charts announces ranks based on the official sales amount on downloads, CD, and streaming. The Top 40 songs are broadcasted through BBC Radio 1 and MTV.

BLACKPINK has entered the main chart for the third time this year, although they haven’t had any promotional activities this year other than releasing the song and MV.

After heating up their engine through the song ‘Sour Candy’(no. 17) with Lady Gaga, their pre-release title song ‘How You Like That’ was ranked at no. 20, renewing their own best K-Pop girl group record.

Foreign media also paid attention. Forbes, the famous American economics magazine, spotlighted the success of Korean artists on the UK Chart Top 40 and emphasized, “BLACKPINK is the K-Pop group who has been charted on UK’s Official Singles Top 40 chart the most”.

In fact, including their song ‘Kiss & Make Up’(no. 36) with Dua Lipa back in 2018 and ‘Kill THIs Love’(no. 33) released back in 2019, the group has been charted on UK’s Official Singles Top 40 chart 5 times. All songs released by them this year have been ranked within the top 40, proving the group’s influence and presence in the major Pop market.

‘Ice Cream’ is a Pop genre song with a simple rhythm and exciting sounds. The song’s success has a big meaning since BLACKPINK grabbed the global music fans’ hearts with cute and fresh concepts, which BLACKPINK has challenged for the first time.

The song topped the iTunes Worldwide Song chart as soon as it was released on the 28th. The song then entered Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart as no. 4 and is maintaining its top ranks. The MV which surpassed 100M views in 1.5 days is racking up views consistently and will soon reach 200M views.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK has announced the release of their official debut album, ‘THE ALBUM’, on October 2 in 4 years after making debut. The album has surpassed a total of 800 thousand global pre-orders, proving the global fans’ high anticipations.
