BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ Tops YouTube 2020 Global Top Summer Songs Chart
[스포츠경향=양승남 기자] BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ became the ‘Song of the summer’ selected by YouTube, after receiving an award in the US MTV Video Music Awards.
On September 2(local time), YouTube revealed, “BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ topped the 2020 Global Top Summer Songs chart”.
Among strong candidates including The Weeknd, DaBaby, and Future, BLACKPINK won the no. 1 spot. They also became the only K-Pop group to be charted on the according chart for 4 consecutive years.
BLACKPINK has challenged YouTube Music’s ‘Global Top Summer Songs’ chart consistently, which is announced every year. After entering the chart as no. 15 with ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ was ranked at no. 3 in 2018, ‘Kill This Love’ was ranked at no. 8 in 2019, while ‘How You Like That’ finally won the no. 1 spot this year.
The ‘How You Like That’ MV released on June 26 received explosive reviews and set numerous world records including the ‘Most Watched Video in 24 Hours’ on YouTube category. The video then surpassed 100M views in approximately 32 hours, 200M views in 7 days, 300M views in 21 days, and 400M views in 43 days. The video will soon reach 500M views.
‘How You Like That’ not only achieved a ‘perfect all-kill’ on major Korean music charts, but also achieved success on overseas charts. The song topped iTunes charts in 64 different countries and set the best K-Pop girl group record by being ranked at no. 20 and at no. 33 on the UK Official Singles Top 100 and the Billboard Hot 100, respectively. The song was also ranked at no. 2 on the Global Top 50 chart of Spotify, the world’s biggest music streaming platform.
BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s ‘Ice Cream’ has been recently released and received favorable reviews, and YouTube has been paying keen attention. YouTube wrote, “The fabulous female collaboration has reached remarkable view counts” and added, “BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s ‘Ice Cream’ has surpassed 79M views in 24 hours, making the all-time third biggest MV debut ever”.
‘Ice Cream’ was ranked at no. 1 on the iTunes Song chart on the 28th, the date of the song’s release. The song was also placed on the top ranks of Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart, while the MV for the song is at no. 1 on YouTube Trending rankings for 6 consecutive days.
Furthermore, BLACKPINK kept their no. 1 spot on the Gaon Social chart announced on the 3rd, for 14 consecutive weeks. The chart comprehensively measures social media popularity and is an index which one can measure BLACKPINK’s global influence and presence.
