[엑스포츠뉴스=이송희 기자] While BLACKPINK is continuing their global popularity storm by releasing ‘Ice Cream’, the group also surpassed Pop star Ed Sheeran in the number of YouTube subscribers.

According to YG Entertainment on the 29th, BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has surpassed 45.6M subscribers the day before, at 8 PM. It is the 3rd biggest figure among all male and female artists in the world.

BLACKPINK has surpassed Ariana Grande and Eminem at the field. They’ve even surpassed Ed Sheeran, who has 45.3M subscribers, and now has only Justin Bieber and DJ Marshmello in front of them.

Their rapid rising trend is something to pay attention to. BLACKPINK has added millions of YouTube subscribers every time they’ve released new songs and has been renewing K-Pop girl group records on major global charts including the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK’s Official Singles Top 100.

Their latest release helped this time as well. BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel has shown a rapid increasing trend after the release of ‘Ice Cream’, adding approximately 100 thousand subscribers every hour. At this pace, they will soon reach 50M subscribers. These results were achieved in less than 2 years since the group entered the US market.

Considering that YouTube is a major platform leading the global music market trend, the results are very meaningful. The number of subscribers are proof showing the steady attention and anticipation by loyal fans, rather than simple curiosity or one-time views.

In fact, BLACKPINK’s latest single ‘Ice Cream’ is receiving heated responses on YouTube and global charts.

The song ‘Ice Cream’ entered the iTunes Worldwide Song Chart as no. 1 on the 28th, as soon as the song was released. The song topped iTunes Song Charts in 38 different countries, was placed on the high ranks on major Pop markets including the US(no. 2) and the UK(no. 3) and is accumulating more countries where it hit the no. 1 spot.

The song also won 3 titles on QQ Music, which is China’s biggest music platform, including the Digital Albums·New Releases·MV Charts. The song also dominated the Weekly Charts(Digital Albums) of Kugou and Kuwo Music.

The MV for ‘Ice Cream’ has reached 1.75M simultaneous YouTube Premiere viewers as soon as the video was released, setting another K-Pop girl group record. The video surpassed 70M views in 21 hours, making the people look forward to whether they will renew their own best record set through ‘How You Like That’ on the ‘number of views accumulated on YouTube in 24 hours’ and the time it took to reach 100M views.

‘Ice Crea’ is a Pop genre song with a simple rhythm and exciting sounds. Like the title suggests, the song fits well with the hot summer and metaphorically states the meaning of ‘looking cold from the outside but actually sweet’ through ice cream. Since the song has a sweet and fresh concept rather than the group’s signature Hip-hop based girl crush and charismatic charms, it is captivating the hearts of a more broader base of music fans.
