‘Gold Spoons?’, TREASURE’s First Step is Unexplainable with That
[데일리안=박정선 기자] “Reactions like this? It’s unbelievable. I couldn’t believe it”.
People call children who can enjoy an abundant life without hard work due to their parents’ wealth an ability, ‘gold spoons’. Based on the results before making debut, TREASURE is also a ‘gold spoon’ group. With their status as a new boy group by YG Entertainment(hereby YG), they’ve made unprecedented results such as topping iTunes Song charts in 19 different countries, grabbing the attention of global music fans.
However, when you look in closely, the results did not just happen simply because they are ‘gold spoons’. After being formed through YG’s survival program ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ and a long period of training, their debut schedule was delayed a couple of times, making them focus on practicing with the same goal of making ‘debut’. In a situation which may make them feel anxious and worried, the members look forward with a positive attitude.
“Our debut got delayed, but it gave us more time to prepare. It made us strengthen our teamwork during the period. We also had time to improve ourselves. We practiced with a single goal of making debut, but we now have a broader view since we made it. Now that we just made our first step, we want to present our growth”.
TREASURE is a group with an average age of 19, composed of members BANG YE DAM, YOSHI, JUNKYU, MASHIHO, YOON JAE HYUK, ASAHI, DOYOUNG, HARUTO, PARK JEONG WOO, SO JUNG HWAN, and leaders CHOI HYUN SUK and JIHOON. As the group considered global activities, many Japanese members were also included. As a result, countries overseas including Japan paid attention to their debut. 6 major newspapers and terrestrial networks of Japan spotlighted the group’s debut by headlining, ‘TREASURE’s World Stage Debut’.
“Rather than feeling pressure for getting attention before making debut, we made it an opportunity to work harder. We did not want to disappoint the public’s anticipation toward us”.
Some members stated that “It didn’t come out well as we prepared” after the first performance, but the group pulled off strong group moves with ease since they’ve been practicing together for a long time. The focal point is that YG has been presenting the agency’s color through many artists, but TREASURE is different.
“It was glad to know that our group was the beginning of a new style by YG. Our agency’s producers really paid keen attention to that extent. YG’s unique color was not completely ignored. It’s more like YG plus alpha? Our team’s unique ‘boyish charms’ were added on top”.
The unique point is that there are two ‘leaders’ who lead the 12 members. CHOI HYUN SUK and JIHOON are leaders who depend on each other and lead the team with their teamwork formed through a long training period.
“It’s good that I can lead our teammates with a member whom I can trust and depend on rather than focusing on individual talents. We may miss some points, which we catch and complement each other. I feel reassured. We have our roles as leaders, but the members emotionally support each other as anchors”.
Leader CHOI HYUN SUK thanked SO JUNG HWAN, the youngest member of the team. “SO JUNG HWAN asks every member if it wasn’t hard and thinks if there are points for him to fix and improve. It feels like he rather comforts and supports his elder brothers”. JIHOON also praised him by adding, “He always works hard without showing that he’s tired and rather shows motivation, positively influencing his elder brothers”.
They’ve made their first step with successful results due to YG’s name value, but they are not in a rush. The members remind themselves, “Let’s grow step by step”. They have ambitions of winning the Rookie of the Year award, which one can receive only once in a lifetime, but focuses on “Considering ourselves as rivals and achieving internal growth”, rather than competing with other groups.
“Starting with our latest single, we are planning to release new songs continuously until the end of the year. It is our hope and goal to grow step by step to find TREASURE’s unique color”.
