[헤럴드경제=서병기 선임기자] BLACKPINK set a new global record through the song ‘Sour Candy’, the group’s collaboration with Lady Gaga, and are receiving the spotlight from major foreign media.

On May 29th(local time), Forbes, the American economics magazine, spotlighted the amazing success they have achieved with the headline, “Lady Gaga And BLACKPINK’s ‘Sour Candy’ Debut Smashes Spotify And YouTube Records”.

Forbes wrote, “The long-awaited collaboration, ‘Sour Candy’, by Lady Gaga and BLACKPINK has set a new streaming record after its monstrous debut last Thursday”. They added, “The song reached over 3,670,000 streams on Spotify’s global chart and was ranked at no. 6 as well as being ranked at no. 12 on the US chart with over 757,000 streams. According to the chart data, the streaming record is the highest in girl group history on Spotify”.

They continued, “’Sour Candy’ reached 21.8 million views in 24 hours since the song was released, setting the best record among all collaborations between female artists”, paying keen attention to the amazing record they’ve set on YouTube. According to Forbes, the figure is higher than the record set by Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey through the song ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’.

Forbes also rated their success high by explaining, “It’s even more impressive since the record was set although ‘Sour Candy’ did not have a music video. All records are from audio video only”.

BLACKPINK is setting milestones through their collaboration with global artists, which proves the group’s global influence. In fact, the records being set by ‘Sour Candy’ renewed BLACKPINK’s own record set back in 2018 through ‘Kiss and Make Up’, collaborated with Dua Lipa, the singer-songwriter from the UK.

Prior to their upcoming comeback, BALCKPINK has proved their strong influence and recognition through ‘Sour Candy’, preheating to target the global market. Starting with the pre-release title being released in June, they will release two new songs on between July~August in special formats and will release their first-ever full album in September.
