‘Sour Candy’ by BLACKPINK X Lady Gaga Pre-Releases Today(28th)… Singing in Korean+English
[엑스포츠뉴스=김미지 기자] Lady Gaga’s new song ‘Sour Candy’, featured by group BLACKPINK, was released unexpectedly on the 28th at 8PM(KST).
Prior to the release of Lady Gaga’s 6th album, BLACKPINK’s collaboration with Lady Gaga unveiled following Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s collaboration, gathering the attention of global music fans.
‘Sour Candy’ is a Dance-Pop song with lyrics which state that one can have both a strong charisma and warmness. The song goes well with the team name of BLACKPINK, which was created with the pretty color ‘Pink’ and the color ‘Black’ with the meaning that ‘it’s not all’.
BLACKPINK sang not only in English but also in Korean in the song, raising the status of K-Pop. It is rare to see Korean lyrics included in a global Pop star’s song. It shows how special the collaboration is between the two stars, who represent the east and west.
BLACKPINK revealed, “It’s an honor and we’re happy to work with Lady Gaga, one of our favorite artists. As we had fun working on the track, we hope that BLINKs all around the world will enjoy ‘Sour Candy’ as well. We hope the song will be loved by many people”.
Through an interview with a foreign media, Lady Gaga has previously explained, “I offered BLACKPINK to work on a song with me. My collaboration with BLACKPINK was exciting and amazing. They are a creative group with lots of talents. I’m proud to have become the fifth member of BLACKPINK through this track”.
‘Sour Candy’ was produced by world-famous producers including BLOODPOP® and Burns. In addition to the two producers, Teddy from The Black Label of YG Entertainment, RAMI YACOUB, and MADISON EMIKO LOVE helped composed the track.
BLOODPOP® has previously worked with global popstars including Madonna, Justin Bieber, Fifth Harmony, and Britney Spears. He released his single ‘Friends’ with Justin Bieber back in 2017. Burns has previously worked with Britney Spears and Liam Payne.
In addition to BLACKPINK, artists such as Ariana Grande and Elton John have participated in Lady Gaga’s upcoming album. BLACKPINK proved their global power by being listed on the same album with icons of Pop music.
BLACKPINK has previously featured on ‘Kiss and Make Up’ by Dua Lipa, the singer-songwriter from UK, back in 2018. The song was ranked at no. 36 on UK’s Official Singles Chart Top 100 with the love of the fans.
People are now looking forward to the success ‘Sour Candy’ will achieve in major global music charts. Forbes, the American economics magazine, forecasted that BLACKPINK will perform well in the Hot 100, one of Billboard’s main charts, with their song ‘Sour Candy’.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will release their pre-release title song in June. The members have recently completed recording their first full-length album with over 10 tracks and are preparing to make comeback. After releasing the pre-release title, the group will release two new tracks in special formats between July~August and will release their official album in September.
