BLACKPINK X Lady Gaga to Release ‘Sour Candy’ on the 29th… Global Hit on the Way
[스포츠경향=유인선 기자] The release date of ‘Sour Candy’, the song created under the collaboration of BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga, has been officially announced. Prior to making comeback, BLACKPINK grabbed the attention of global music fans and began preheating to target the global music industry.
On May 6(US local time), Lady Gaga announced that her sixth album ‘Chromatica’ will be released on the 29th through her official social media account. She has previously revealed a track list including a song featured by BLACKPINK and has now confirmed the release date of the album.
BLACKPINK has featured on track no. 10, ‘Sour Candy’. No information on the music has yet been revealed, but the global music fans are paying keen attention just to the fact that Pop stars who represent the eastern and western culture have collaborated.
US Billboard covered the news on Lady Gaga’s new album release date, as well as showing high anticipation on these factors. Billboard wrote, “Lady Gaga’s ‘Chromatica’ became a new opportunity for her to team up with talented folks in the music industry”. They added more meaning by writing, “K-Pop’s supergroup, BLACKPINK, has participated in the song ‘Sour Candy’”.
Artists such as Ariana Grande and Elton John have participated in Lady Gaga’s upcoming album, along with BLACKPINK. BLACKPINK stood tall next to musicians who have and is decorating the past and current trend of Pop music.
Collaborations by BLACKPINK and overseas Pop stars have already been proven to be effective. BLACKPINK featured on Dua Lipa’s ‘Kiss and Make Up’ back in 2018, which entered UK’s Official Singles Chart Top 100 as no. 36, proving the group’s popularity. The two artists then met at a concert to present a successful performance together.
After releasing ‘Kill This Love’ last year, BLACKPINK entered Billboard’s main charts including the ‘Hot 100’ and ‘Billboard 200’ as no. 41 and no. 24 respectively, setting a milestone in K-Pop girl group history. The group also performed at the ‘Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’, which is the biggest music festival in the US, as well as meeting the global fans through their world tour composed of 32 concerts held in 23 cities of 4 continents, in addition to their dome tour in Japan composed of 4 concerts held in a total of 3 cities.
YG has recently announced that ‘BLACKPINK is planning to make comeback on June”. They added, “We are planning to inform the fans when the exact schedule is determined”.
