BANG YE DAM of TREASURE, ‘YG’s 7th Year Trainee’, to Release Solo Single in June
[마이데일리=양유진 기자] BANG YE DAM of TREASURE, YG Entertainment’s rookie group, will release his first solo single album.
On May 21, YG Entertainment officially announced that BANG YE DAM’s solo single will be released in June through a fan announcement.
YG explained, “We’ve been preparing BANG YE DAM’s solo music before TREASURE was formed” and added, “We’ve decided that it would be a good decision to release a song that was completed in June, prior to TREASURE’s debut, as a surprise gift for the fans”.
In addition to the news on BANG YE DAM’s upcoming solo single, which was unexpected by the fans, TREASURE’s plans for the second half of this year were also revealed.
YG stated, “TREASURE is planning to release new songs 3~4 times until the end of the year, after making debut in July”. They explained, “It’s a similar promotion method of how BIGBANG released single albums every month when they first made debut back in 2006”.
No details on the song or an exact release date have been revealed, but BANG YE DAM’s upcoming solo single is expected to raise the global music fans’ expectations on TREASURE’s debut in July.
After winning second place on SBS ‘K-Pop Star Season 2’ back in 2012 as a 11-year old child, BANG YE DAM received the spotlight in addition to his title as the ‘genius kid’. He then received 7 years of training at YG Entertainment to improve his musical capabilities and skills.
BANG YE DAM’s soulful emotions and voice color are unrivaled. His cover video of ‘There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back’(originally performed by Shawn Mendes) surpassed 35 million views on YouTube, while his cover of ‘HONESTY’(originally performed by Pink Sweat$) also became popular among the fans and received positive reviews that he ‘lived up to his reputation’.
TREASURE, consisted of members including BANG YE DAM, CHOI HYUN SUK, JIHOON, YOSHI, JUNKYU, MASHIHO, YOON JAE HYUK, ASAHI, DOYOUNG, HARUTO, PARK JEONG WOO, and SO JUNG HWAN, were born through the survival program ‘YG TREASURE BOX’.
TREASURE has recently been ranked at no. 1 on Twitter’s global trend rankings through the hashtag #TREASURE_DEBUT_ON_JULY. Foreign media have also spotlighted the group by calling them ‘YG’s next generation boy group that will lead the agency’s future’ following BIGBANG, WINNER, and iKON, as well as regarding them as the biggest rising starks of K-Pop in 2020.
Meanwhile, YG uploaded BANG YE DAM’s solo teaser clip in addition to the fan announcement through their official blog.
In the end of the video, one of the 12 dots which represent TREASURE shined brightly, implying BANG YE DAM’s solo single release. Then all 12 dots shined together, implying TREASURE’s upcoming debut.
