BLACKPINK Becomes the First K-Pop Girl Group to be Certified Gold in the US… “Expecting 1 Billion MV Views”

[서울경제=김현진 기자] BLACKPINK became the first-ever K-Pop girl group to be certified ‘Gold’ by RIAA, the Recording Industry Association of America.

On August 23rd(local time), US Billboard revealed that BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ has been certified Gold in the digital single category.

RIAA certifies single and album sales in Gold(Over 500 thousand copies), Platinum(Over 1 million), Multi-Platinum(Over 2 million), and Diamond(Over 10 million). BTS is the first-ever K-Pop group to be certified Gold and Platinum with their singles and albums and has the must number of certifications among Korean artists. BLACKPINK is the first-ever K-Pop girl group to be certified by the RIAA.

BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ has became the fastest K-Pop MV to surpass 200 and 900 million views on YouTube, after its release last year on June. Billboard revealed, “The MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ is expected to become the first K-Pop MV to surpass 1 billion views, as it has currently surpassed 925 million views”.
