BLACKPINK to Appear on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ for the ‘First Time as Korean Artists’

[서울경제=이하나 기자] BLACKPINK confirmed their upcoming appearance on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ following their appearance confirmation on ‘Good Morning America’, which proved their unrivaled class.

On February 6 (local time), CBS officially announced that BLACKPINK will appear on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’, the late-night talk show with the highest viewers rating in the US, on February 11 (local time). 

‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ is the representative late-night talk show by CBS and has been ranked at no. 1 with viewers ratings 2 and 3 times more than its competitive programs including ‘Jimmy Fallon Show’ and ‘Jimmy Kimmel Show’, respectively. The YouTube channel for this program has a total of 4.2 billion accumulated views. It will be the first time that Korean artists will be meeting Stephen Colbert. 

In addition, ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ will be shot at ‘Ed Sullivan Theater’, located in Manhattan, New York. The ‘Ed Sullivan Theater’ is known as the venue where the legendary UK band,’ The Beatles’, performed their debut stage in the US. BLACKPINK will perform at the same exact place.

Famous artists, actors, and even influential politicians including Hillary Clinton, Lady Gaga, Ryan Reynolds, Justin Timberlake, and Jack Black have appeared on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ as guests. Furthermore, superstars including  Paul Simon, Lil Wayne, Janelle Monae, and Dua Lipa have performed on this show.

Previously on February 5th (local time), ABC’s ‘Good Morning America, GMA’ officially announced, “BLACKPINK will perform live in Times Square studio for their American morning show debut next Tuesday’ through their official social media account. BLACKPINK will also appear on ‘Strahan and Sara(GMA Day)’ on the 15th.

‘Good Morning America’ is a morning news show that represents ABC and has a history of over 40 years. The show also has the highest viewer ratings among all morning shows of the US. ‘Strahan and Sara’ is an afternoon show which is an extension of ‘Good Morning America’, hosted by ‘Michael Strahan’ and ‘Sara Haines’. 

The global fans are paying keen attention on what kind of performances BLACKPINK will perform to grab the US viewers’ hearts, as they will be performing at two of the most popular TV shows in the US including the ‘Late Show’ and ‘Good Morning America’. 

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK has previously notified their expansion to the US market by partnering with Interscope, the representative label of Universal Music Group. They will also perform at ‘Coachella’, the largest music festival in the US, for the first time as K-Pop idols on April 12 and 19th. In addition, the group will continue their path as a ‘global girl group’ by holding their first-ever world tour in large-scale in Asia, North America, Europe, and Australia.
