“NO Interviews” … ‘YG TREASURE BOX’, YANG HYUN SUK Refuses Obvious and Kind Evaluations

[OSEN=최나영 기자] While ‘YG TREASURE BOX’, the program by YG Entertainment (abbreviated as YG) to select members of a new boy group has finally unveiled, YANG HYUN SUK’s conviction of refusing ‘obvious and kind evaluations’ stood out.
The first episode of ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ premiered on the 16th notified the start of a competition to become members of YG’s new generation boy group following Jinusean, 1TYM, BIGBANG, WINNER, and iKON. The trainees of YG hoping to make debut and YG’s training system carved for the past 22 years have finally unveiled.
The characteristics of the 1st episode of ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ seen through YANG HYUN SUK is that there isn’t a single interview on himself. All scenes were real situations filmed through a hidden camera. This feels like representative YANG HYUN SUK’s silent voice that states, ‘We don’t need images for TV. This is real. We don’t let things pass just because we’re family’.
YANG HYUN SUK has not been interviewed once on ‘YG TREASURE BOX’, and all the scenes he appears in are shot through cameras fixed on the wall. He did not even go through a press conference.
In fact, YANG HYUN SUK made ruthless statements on the 29 trainees such as, “It’s a total mess. It doesn’t matter if you’re good during practice. You’re weak during actual performance”. They were realistic and sharp advice needed to bring out talent from the trainees. One of the problems of audition programs nowadays is that the judges refrain from harsh criticism to ‘take care of their own images’ and only mention the good things. This makes the program less interesting and naturally makes the viewers respond less to the show. One cannot deny that YANG HYUN SUK and Park Jinyoung’s realistic advice and criticism from SBS ‘K-Pop Star’ were necessary for the trainees.
‘YG TREASURE BOX’ will show the realistic aspects of the trainees and their progress of hardening to real’ treasures’ through the program.

Along with BANG YE DAM who has been training for 6 years as a trainee of YG, CHOI HYUN SUK and LEE BYUNG GON who participated in MIXNINE’, members of Treasure A team have had an average of 4 years of training. YG supports every trainee with approximately 100 million KRW every year, including expenses on food, transportation, Japanese classes, English classes, acting classes, debate classes, and weight training. They also go through counseling sessions for their healthy minds. Treasure A team is receiving high expectations along with the wholehearted support mentioned aforehand.
Treasure B team, composed of members of ages 16~19, are cooperating with a single dream. They represent the ‘transformed YG’, with talent and skills along with good appearances. They still need to get trimmed, but their potential matches that of Treasure A team. JANG YUN SEO, YOON JAEHYUK, and WANG JYUN HAO with handsome looks joined YG through street casting.
Treasure C team, the youngest group with the average age of 14.4, is cute and full of excitement. KIM JONG SEOB, the winner of ‘K-Pop Star 6’ is part of the team. The trainees of Treasure C were being trained from the basics using simple methods. Since they are at puberty age, they practiced vocals while having a straw from a water bottle to avoid the damage of vocal cords, which left a strong impression on the viewers.
Then the tense monthly evaluations of Treasure A, B, and C teams followed. YANG HYUN SUK stated, “We’re launching a new team this year. I would like to select a group with good visuals and skills”. He continued, “We’re thinking of selecting 5 members, but the exact number will be announced during the program airing”.
Meanwhile, YANG HYUN SUK introduced 7 new trainees after stating, “You didn’t think I would select 5 members to debut out of just you 22 trainees?”. Treasure J team from YG Japan, YG’s branch in Japan, composed of 7 trainees then appeared at the scene. As Treasure J team was added unexpectedly, a fiercer competition in the upcoming episodes were expected.
