SECHSKIES to Release an Album for the First Time in 18 Years, and the Group Thanks YG and Infinite Challenge for it
[OSEN=김은애 기자] SECHSKIES is to release its fifth album after an 18-year break. The group is determined to open up a new chapter in their career with this album, and the past year was just a preparation stage.
On September 21, a press conference was held to celebrate the release of SECHSKIES’s 5th album “ANOTHER LIGHT” at M Cube, Seoul.
The group decided to name the album “ANOTHER LIGHT” to show that it reflects SECHSKIES’s new concept and their unique color and light. SECHSKIES is seeking to break its image of being the first generation idol group, and this album will give the fans a glimpse into what their music will be like in the future.
EUN JIWON said, “We are releasing an album for the first time in 18 years. We’ve released songs after our reunion, but it’s our first album. We feel like we’re officially debuting from YG now.”
JANG SUWON said, “We’ve really worked hard on this album. Everyone, including YANG HYUN SUK, put in a lot of effort. I’m so proud of this album.”
Unlike SECHSKIES’s past EPs, which were a mix of the group’s old and new songs, all the nine tracks of this album are new. “SOMETHING SPECIAL” is an upbeat song with hip-hop and reggae elements. SECHSKIES is making a new attempt in their music with this love song.
“SMILE” is a sad but restrained song that accentuates SECHSKIES’s vocal skills. EUN JIWON mentioned that it is his favorite song in the album.
KANG SUNGHOON said, “YANG HYUN SUK told us to just trust him and go along with him, and that’s why we were able to have two title tracks.” KIM JAEDUCK also expressed his gratitude and said, “I like to thank the members, YANG HYUN SUK, and our fans. We’re able to make our fifth album thanks to them.”
The producers of the album are special too. EUN JIWON wrote the lyrics for a song in this album, and WINNER’s MINO and HOONY, EPIK HIGH’s TABLO, and FUTURE BOUNCE participated in making the album.
EUN JIWON commented, “I’m sad that I was only able to write lyrics for one song. We’ve worked with many different YG producers for this album. It took a while for us to really work as a team. We didn’t try to reflect our opinions, but we respected the producers’ opinions when they were trying to set our unique style.”
About working with WINNER, EUN JIWON said, “They write songs that young people like. They found a balance between what young people like and what we like. WINNER was awkward with us at first. But pretty soon, they warmed up.”
SECHSKIES members also thanked YANG HYUN SUK. KIM JAEDUCK said, “I want to continue making good music with YG.” EUN JIWON said, “YANG HYUN SUK is our senior as an idol. I connect with him the most in YG.” KANG SUNGHOON said, “YANG HYUN SUK checked even the littlest moves in our choreography. He sure knows how to make his clients happy.”
The album is all the more meaningful as it is SECHSKIES’s first album in 18 years. EUN JIWON said, “I feel like I’m in my twenties. I don’t want to get hung up on the charts results. I want to be happy when promoting this album. We’ve adopted YG style into our music. I hope you check out the combination between SECHSKIES and YG.”
SECHSKIES also talked about the past year after their reunion. KANG SUNGHOON said, “Now we feel like real brothers. The EPs we released were previews. This album will be a proper beginning.”
LEE JAEJIN said, “We celebrated our 20th anniversary this year. I learned to appreciate our fans more during the past year. We’ll work harder to always bring something new to the fans.” EUN JIWON said, “Thank you YG and Infinite Challenge”.
So what is SECHSKIES’s final goal? JANG SUWON said, “So far, people only took interest in us because of our looks. But now, we want people to like our music. We want to be our own role model”.
