[Appeal to Maniacs] We Can Hear Your Voice, WINNER’s KIM JINWOO

They all have different charms, and we provide a guide for idol maniac wannabes who have a hard time finding their favorite group. We look into new idol groups, members who haven’t received enough spotlight, great songs and performances of idol groups, and their hidden charms.
◆ KIM JINWOO’s role in WINNER
Until now, KIM JINWOO was just the pretty boy of WINNER. All WINNER members are attractive, but KIM JINWOO was the one with looks like a gorgeous cartoon character. Plus, WINNER already had two unique vocalists and two great rappers. KIM JINWOO’s voice was gentle in comparison, making it difficult to stand out in WINNER’s songs.
Four years have passed, and the new WINNER has released new songs. And now, we can hear KIM JINWOO instead of just seeing him.

◆ A new WINNER and a new KIM JINWOO
On April 4, WINNER released a new EP titled “FATE NUMBER FOR“, and it contains “REALLY REALLY” and “FOOL” as double title tracks. The songs have KANG SEUNGYOON, KIM JINWOO, SONG MINO, and LEE SEUNGHOON’s voice in them. This is because NAM TAEHYUN left the group last year. He was the main vocalist of the group, so WINNER had to make some changes. Members had to work harder to fill the space. KANG SEUNGYOON said, “JINWOO worked hard to improve his vocal skills.” Indeed, KIM JINWOO has strong presence in WINNER’s two new songs.
In WINNER’s tropical house song “REALLY REALLY”, one can hear KIM JINWOO’s voice from the first verse. His sweet voice adds a mystical and dreamy-like charm to the song. Just before the chorus part, KIM JINWOO sings “l like you” as if he is uttering the words, making the song fresh and sweet. He has a gentle soft voice but it’s not weak. There’s strength in his gentleness. Making a sharp contrast to KANG SEUNGYOON’s husky voice, KIM JINWOO’s voice makes the song even more interesting.
WINNER’s second title song “FOOL” is a typical WINNER song. It is about the feeling of regret one feels after a breakup. KIM JINWOO sings this song without any exaggeration and too much technique. His clear voice hit high notes, and KANG SEUNGYOON’s voice backs it up.
It is clear that KIM JINWOO has grown as a singer. His voice is different from when he sang “EMPTY” or “SENTIMENTAL”. KIM JINWOO noted, “Until our last album, I depended a lot on the rest of the members. But I’ve been working hard to relieve their burden.” It is said that KIM JINWOO received vocal lessons when preparing for this album. His experience of doing the dance drama “Little Prince” also helped him to better express his feelings while singing.
WINNER has turned its crisis into an opportunity. KIM JINWOO worked hard to fill NAM TAEHYUN’s shoes and it paid. Now, KIM JINWOO’s voice is making everyone listen to WINNER’s music one more time. We have high expectations for KIM JINWOO.
