SECHSKIES’ first No.1 on on-line music charts in 19 years since their debut

[뉴시스=이재훈 기자] First-generation idol boy group SECHSKIES that has been reunited recently after 16 years of separation took No.1 on on-line music charts for the first time in 19 years since their debut.

According to SECHSKIES’ label YG Entertainment, SECHSKIES’s new song “THREE WORDS” released on on-line music-streaming websites on October 7 at 0 o’clock took No.1 on the real-time chart of eight major music-streaming websites: Melon, Monkey3, Olleh, NAVER Music, Bugs, Soribada, Mnet, and Genie.

SECHSKIES took No.1 on a variety of off-line albums charts after their debut with first album “학원별곡” in 1997. However, SECHSKIES has never topped on-line music charts, as the team was disbanded in 2000 before the birth of on-line music-streaming service.

“THREE WORDS” released after 16 years of SECHSKIES’ absence from the music scene is a love song that talks about the hearts of lovers reunited after long-time separation. For SECHSKIES’ reunion, hip-hop group EPIK HIGH’s member TABLO wrote the melody and lyrics of the song and “FUTURE BOUNCE” from YG producing team took part in composition and rearrangement.

On the day, KANG SUNGHOON said on his Instagram account, “Tears are running on my eyes constantly, our history will go on”.

The music video of “THREE WORDS” posted on YouTube on the day of the song’s release recorded 23,000 views as of 8AM on the day. The music video shows SECHSKIES giving their last performance in “Dream Concert” in 2000, as well as the members in 2016 recording the new song and preparing for their comeback concert together.

More than 20,000 tickets for SECHSKIES’ first concert in 16 years which was held on September 10 and 11, 2016, at Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena, were all sold out and the concert was finished in a great success.

SECHSKIES is enjoying big popularity in the Chinese region as well. “THREE WORDS” took No.1 on the real-time popularity chart of China’s biggest music-streaming website QQ Music upon its release. As of the morning on the day of its release, “THREE WORDS” also took high ranks on iTunes singles charts in the Chinese region, including No.1 in Taiwan and No.2 in Hong Kong. The song also entered iTunes charts of major Asian countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia.
