[SC Issue] SECHS KIES Asks Fans to Recall the Love They Shared on Sketchbook

SECHS KIES did it again. They appeared on the June 10th episode of You Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook and sang their hit songs including “COMEBACK”, “CHIVALRY”, “POMSAENGPOMSA”, “LETTING YOU GO”, “CRUSH”, and “COUPLE”. The fans sang along with the members, demonstrating that the DSF (the official fan club of the group) is still alive and well. The frank conversation SECHS KIES had with the host showed that they are indeed fit to be called “the first of idol groups”. The most interesting part was when they talked about meeting GO JI YONG for the first time in 16 years. After the group disbanded, GO JI YONG started a whole different life as a businessman. Therefore, it wasn’t sure whether he will appear on Infinite Challenge’s SECHS KIES comeback special episode. But he decided to go on the stage as a token of his friendship with the rest of the members. SECHS KIES members said that they keep in touch but they don’t talk about promotion schedules with GO JI YONG to avoid making him feel bad.
The June 10th episode of You Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook posted 3.1 % in nationwide TV ratings (Nielsen Korea). Usually the ratings of You Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook remain at 1% or 2% range, so this extraordinary hike demonstrates the public’s interest in SECHS KIES.
Just before the end of their stage, SECHS KIES promised another beginning. KANG SUNG HOON said, “This is our last TV show in our official promotion schedule. Thank you for your unwavering love.” JANG SU WON said, “I hope we really yearn for each other. If we do, then we can see each other for a long time.”
EUN JI WON said, “This is our last TV show, but this isn’t the end. We promise you that you’ll see us again with good songs and performances.”
SECHS KIES debuted on April 15, 1997. They were an iconic first generation idol group along with H.O.T. But, on May 20, 2000, they decided to disband citing conflict with their label. They were only active for about three years. Considering their immense popularity, their disbandment came too soon. Fans had every reason to feel frustrated. 16 years have passed since then, and SECHS KIES has promised a new beginning. They reunited thanks to Infinite Challenge, and afterwards they joined YG Entertainment. The composer of “POMSAENGPOMSA”, Park Keun-tae, is in charge of their comeback project. Of course, since GO JI YONG is no longer in the entertainment industry, he has not joined SECHS KIES in their promotion activities. But he is considering taking part in albums and concerts. This is good news for SECHS KIES’ fans, who had waited for their reunion for a long time. Soon, their long wait will be over.
Expectations are running high for SECHS KIES’ comeback as it will bring together their fans, a.k.a the yellowbies.
