SECHSKIES signed contract with YG… Realizing the dream of comeback after 16 years of absence [Official announcement]
[OSEN=최나영 기자] Group SECHSKIES is officially coming back after 16 years of absence from the music scene, with YG Entertainment (“YG”).
YG officially announced on May 11 in the morning that the company has signed contract with SECHSKIES’ members: Eun Jiwon, Lee Jaijin, Kim Jaeduck, Kang Sungoon, and Jang Suwon. Ko Jiyong did not sign the contract with the other members, as he now runs his business, but he might take part in concerts and album in the future, according to YG.
SECHSKIES built record-big fandom upon their debut with “Song of a School Life” and “The Way This Guy Lives” in 1997. Every song released since then including “Couple”, “Leaving You”, and “Please Remember” took No.1 in TV music shows. Such big popularity SECHSKIES enjoyed led to the boom of boy groups in Korea.
Since SECHSKIES’ breakup in May 2000, the members have lived their own lives and they were dramatically reunited on the stage of guerilla concert of “Saturday Concert 2” of MBC’s “The Infinite Challenge” show.
Even though it was a rainy weekday, more than 6,000 fans filled up Sang-am Stadium in Seoul with waves of yellow balloons, within a few hours after the venue was announced. Fans who were young students then have now become grown-ups and some of them are mothers, but there seemed to be no change in their passionate heart welcoming SECHSKIES so enthusiastically. The scene of the fans’ tears of joy and sadness touched viewers so much.
Such big interest in SECHSKIES has not subsided after their reunion was broadcasted. One of the team’s past hit songs even took 14th place in KBS’s “Music Bank” show. Plus, as the news that YG’s head YANG HYUN SUK met SECHSKIES’ members, fans’ anticipation for the team’s reunion and comeback, not just one-off performance, has grown even bigger.
Finally, YG has announced the news of contract with SECHSKIES and now SECHSKIES is kicking off their career again with full support from YG. The song and desperate wish of SECHSKIES’ fans is now about to coming true.
The quality of YG’s concerts and music is recognized overseas, going beyond Korea, which is demonstrated by the success of global tour of YG’s male artists including BIGBANG, PSY, iKON, and WINNER. Therefore, music fans have big anticipation for what kind of music SECHSKIES will present in collaboration with YG after 16 years of hiatus in their career and what kind of role the team’s 20 years of know-how on the stage will play for their comeback. As YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK directly recruited SECHSKIES, it is expected that SECHSKIES will be able to come back pretty soon.
