[Exclusive] Reason why YANG HYUNSUK Came to Broadcaster First
[OSEN=최나영 기자] YG Entertainment CEO YANG HYUN SUK showed a totally different side of himself, surprising those in the broadcasting industry.
He did it for WINNER’s new variety show “Half-moon Friends” on JTBC. JTBC confirmed that YANG HYUN SUK came to the JTBC studios first for WINNER’s very own variety show. He is well known for not coming to broadcasting studios.
This is what makes YANG HYUN SUK a difficult figure for those in the broadcasting industry. YG artists such as BIGBANG and 2NE1 were reluctant about appearing variety shows, so YANG HYUN SUK rarely visited variety show studios.
However, in the case of “Half-moon Friends”, YANG HYUN SUK proposed doing a variety show first to JTBC. He went to Im Jung-a, a producer that he had known since she worked at MBC, to talk about putting WINNER on a variety show.
There weren’t any suitable ideas at first, but after much discussion, YANG HYUN SUK thought that WINNER doing a show with children would be a good idea and developed the idea.
“Half-moon Friends” is a rare case of being 100% pre-made. To make this possible, YANG HYUN SUK told JTBC that WINNER would not have any other schedules during the shoot, which came as a surprise to JTBC. They accepted YANG HYUN SUK’s proposal and decided to shoot the show.
A JTBC official told OSEN, “YANG HYUN SUK’s such actions were surprising and very out of the ordinary for him. He’s not the kind of person that comes to a broadcasting company and suggests doing something. Of course, YG came up with the idea for Mnet’s “WIN” and “MIX & MATCH”, but it was the broadcaster that took the initiative in making the shows. He plays an active role and put forth ideas for SBS’s K-Pop Star as he is a judge on the show. For “Half-moon Friends” though, he has played a leading role since the very beginning from making decisions about its format.
In short, since WINNER is still a rookie, he had to be the one that comes forward with ideas and make the whole thing happen. This just shows how much effort YG has put in WINNER’s “Half-moon Friends”.
Meanwhile, the first episode of “Half-moon Friends” airs on April 23. It shows the 15 days that WINNER spent with four-to-seven-year old children. The focus of the show is not on WINNER members taking care of the children but on the friendship between the members and children, which they gained by interacting with each other and making each other feel less lonely. According to the production crew, the show is not a variety show about child-rearing but a documentary about friendship.
