Achievements of 2NE1 [2NE1 Reborn]
[OSEN=박소영 기자] On May 5, YG Entertainment officially announced that MINZY will be leaving 2NE1. This marks the end of the four-member 2NE1, and the beginning of a three-member 2NE1 consisting of CL, BOM, and DARA.
◆The Pioneer of Girl Crush
2NE1 debuted in March 2009 and took the music scene by storm. They sang “LOLLIPOP” with BIGBANG, who had debuted earlier on, for a cell-phone commercial. Two months later, 2NE1’s debut single “FIRE” was released, and the song received a huge response.
2NE1 distinguished itself from sexy or cute girl groups and established a unique position in Korea’s music industry. CL’s powerful rap, BOM’s unique voice, DARA’s brisk rap, and MINZY’s boundless dance showed that 2NE1 is not just an ordinary idol group.
◆Countless Hit Songs
2NE1 is more than just a girl group. They have continuously improved both performance and music-wise and have become artists. With their first mini-album “I DON’T CARE”, which was released in July in the year of their debut, 2NE1 topped KBS 2TV’s Music Bank charts for five weeks in a row. All the songs that 2NE1 released became major hits.
In the year after their debut, 2NE1 released their first regular album, and three songs in the album – “CAN’T NOBODY”, “GO AWAY”, and “CLAP YOUR HANDS”- became huge hits. In 2011, they released their second mini album, which consisted of hit songs such as “DON’T CRY”, “LONELY”, “I’M THE BEST”, “HATE YOU”, and “UGLY”. They kept on producing hit songs such as “FALLING IN LOVE”, “DO YOU LOVE ME”, and “MISSING YOU” in 2013 and “COME BACK HOME”, “GOTTA BE YOU”, and “IF I WERE YOU” in the years after.
◆Proved Even a Girl Group Can Do World Tours
2NE1 became huge not only in Korea but also across the globe. Their songs received favorable reviews from the Billboard magazine. Their music video views on Youtube went up endlessly, and their albums ranked high on the world album charts. Before, people thought only boy groups can go global, but 2NE1 proved otherwise.
And so, 2NE1 went to perform on a bigger stage. In July 2012, they went on their first world tour titled “NEW EVOLUTION” and held concerts in 11 cities in seven countries. Their second world tour “ALL OR NOTHING” was also a great success. 2NE1 is the only girl group in Korea that has went on two world tours.
