[Music Talk Talk] YG is putting on the last spurt for the second half of the year 2015
[OSEN=최나영 기자] YG Entertainment (“YG”) is putting on the last spurt for the second half of this year.
For the year 2015, YG boasted an unrivaled influence on music charts.
According to Gaon chart, the songs of YG artists took No.1 on Gaon’s monthly music chart for five months from May to September this year.
Notably, BIGBANG swept the chart with their songs released every month from May to August this year. That was the materialization of the success of BIGBANG’s long-term comeback plan and the quality of the team’s music that appealed not only to their fans but also to the general public, on the chart.
BIGBANG released a single album titled “M”, “A”, “D”, and “E” for the four-month period from May to August this year. That was a repetition of BIGBANG’s debut project nine years ago, for which a single album was released for every month. Such unique plan of BIGBANG’s comeback drew a big attention.
To follow such footsteps of BIGBANG, YG’s rookie idol group iKON also succeeded in fascinating music fans immediately with their debut warm-up single “MY TYPE” released in September this year. “MY TYPE” took No.1 on September’s Gaon music chart.
Along with BIGBANG and iKON, the big influence of YG artists stood out on charts in different ways this year.
The songs performed by MINO in Mnet’s “Show Me the Money 4” show (including “GUP”, “Money Flow”, and “Okey Dokey”), “Oh My God” performed by Kwanghee, BIGBANG’s G-DRAGON and TAEYANG in MBC’s “The Infinite Challenge-The Music Festival”, as well as songs produced by TABLO’s label HIGHGRND have recorded outstanding success on charts.
However, the year 2015 has not ended yet. For the last two months of the year, YG will pick up a bigger momentum.
iKON followed the way of BIGBANG’s comeback plan, but iKON’s plan was something more than BIGBANG’s. iKON made a fancy debut by releasing debut warm-up single “MY TYPE” in September and “WELCOME BACK” in October. Originally, iKON was supposed to release debut half-album on October 1 and debut full-album on November 2, after the release of warm-up single on September 15.
However, YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK gave a special order to iKON and the comeback schedule was somewhat delayed. The goal of such delay was for iKON to come back with a better music.
On the 21 this month, another YG artist will come back. Internet users are now speculating on who that artist will be. As the second teaser image for that artist announced the specific time of November 21 at 21 o’clock, people raised possibility of that artist being 2NE1. However, who the artist actually is has not been disclosed yet.
On the 1 of next month, world-star PSY will come back. He will excite Korea’s music scene for the end-of-year holiday season, by releasing a new album for which he worked on for a long time, three years after his last album. PSY’s success with “Gangnam Style” in 2012, “Gentleman” in 2013, and “HANGOVER” in 2014 have given him an opportunity to go back to his original style.
Then, on December 14, iKON’s full album will be released. With the army of YG artists attacking the music scene hard, Korea’s music charts are expected to be a fierce battlefield for this winter season.
