iKON holds showcase at stadium with 10,000 seats, “Unprecedented debut scenario”

On the 9, YG unveiled a poster and announced that the company’s rookie idol group iKON will have a debut showcase on October 3 at “staggering”
Olympic Gymnastics Stadium. The event will be held almost like a concert.
Such a plan of holding a showcase at the biggest indoor performance hall in Korea only two days after the release of debut album on October 1 is quite surprising. Of course, it is an exceptional plan for a rookie, as there are only a handful of idol singers in Korea, who can hold concert at the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium with 10,000 seats.
In “SHOWTIME”, which is also the slogan of iKON, the team will perform six new songs included in their debut album, as well as the songs they have performed in “MIX & MATCH” show, etc. The ticket sale will open on September 16.
Other plans for the debut of the team are also evaluated to be “unprecedentedly grand”.
First of all, the way of releasing the debut album “WELCOME BACK” is special. On the 8, the news that iKON’s single will be released on the 15 this month; half album on October 1; and full-length album on November 2 was announced. The plan of releasing single, half, and then full-length album is interesting, and the confirmed release dates show YG’s big confidence in the team. After BIGBANG’s domination of the summer from May this year, iKON is now ready to sweep this fall and winter.
Firm confidence is the prerequisite for such a plan. As three new releases will be made in September, October, and November, at least three title songs are needed. All the songs will be the ones written by the members themselves, especially B.I. So, B.I is following the footsteps of YG senior G-DRAGON, who began his artistic career as a co-songwriter.
An YG insider said, “The formula of iKON’s debut resembles that of BIGBANG, in that many new releases are made from the beginning, and the team is designed to be an artist-cum-idol singer. One difference is that BIGBANG had been a total rookie at the time of their debut, but iKON is beginning their career with a big popularity and recognition like a super star in the second or third year from debut. I cannot even imagine how far this team will go.”
