HI SUHYUN Debuts Today, High Expectations for Young YG Artists
[OSEN=선미경의 연예노트] YG Entertainment’s two young musicians: LEE HI and AKMU’s LEE SU HYUN have encountered. Music fans are paying keen attention to what kind of new music will be produced by the unique combination of the two musicians who are loved with cute appearance like anybody’s youngest sister, as well as sophisticated sensitivity unlike that of same-aged girls.
HI SUHYUN releases their new song “I’m Different” on the 11 at 0am, to begin the unit’s performances. As the two are the most prominent artists among singers who appeared in SBS’s audition program “Survival Audition K-Pop Star”, music fans have high expectations for the encounter of LEE HI and LEE SU HYUN.
The unit’s debut song “I’m Different” was written by P.K and Rebecca Johnson, and arranged by P.K. Masta Wu who drew big attention as a judge of cable channel Mnet’s rapper survival “Show Me the Money 3”, as well as BOBBY who featured for “I’m Different”, wrote the lyrics. Rebecca Johnson is rather an unfamiliar name in Korea, but she is a recognized songwriter who took part in work for TAEYANG’s solo hit “EYES, NOSE, LIPS”. Notably, Rebecca Johnson is a genius songwriter in her early twenties, and is attracting attention as she is known as a talented songwriter who was directly scouted from the United States by YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK.
LEE HI and LEE SUHYUN’s unit debut is a little bit surprising, because the color and musical genre pursued by the two vocalists are very different. LEE HI has mostly focused on retro soul and R&B music with her soulful voice, while LEE SU HYUN is specialized for folk genre, with her clear and ringing voice. Music fans’ curiosity about what kind of musical synergy effect the encounter of the two different vocalists will create, is growing higher.
The unit is drawing much attention, as LEE HI and AKMU’s talent was fully recognized in SBS’s survival audition program “K-Pop Star 3”, and they have proven growth in a variety of projects since their debut. Notably, the two have been standing under the spotlight, as talented teenager musician.
Furthermore, both LEE HI and LEE SU HYUN have shown substantial power on music charts. LEE HI recorded No.1 with her debut single “1,2,3,4” released in 2012, on Korea’s biggest music-streaming website Melon, for the longest period of time among all new-faces who made debut in the year. She built recognition in “K-Pop Star” and achieved remarkable success after making official debut, as well.
LEE SU HYUN swept music charts with AKMU’s first full-length album “PLAY” released in April this year, and made all the songs in the album take top places on charts, which is a hard achievement even for top singers. Plus, AKMU took the No.1 once again last month with new song “Time and Fallen Leaves” that sung a remarkably matured emotions. “Don’t Cross Your Legs” and “You’re Attractive”, songs AKMU sang in “K-Pop Star” before their debut, also recorded No.1 on charts. As such, AKMU’s musical talent has also been recognized.
LEE HI and LEE SU HYUN who are equipped with talent and popularity big enough to sweep music charts. Music fans are paying keen attention to if HI SUHYUN will unleash their talent through the new unit project and prove the power of young musicians once again.
