Billboard’s Track-By-Track Review TAEYANG’s ‘Rise’: First for K-Pop Album
[enews24=전수미 기자] TAEYANG’s 2nd full album “RISE” became the first K-Pop album to be reviewed track by track on America’s Billboard.
Billboard on July 9 (local date) said, “RISE” is “Billboard’s first-ever track-by-track review for a K-pop album” and TAEYANG “earned support as a superstar in his own right.”
It wrote, “The LP set a record for solo Korean acts on the Billboard 200, soaring to No. 112 on the Billboard 200… It’s currently sitting pretty on Billboard’s World Albums chart, too, at No. 9 for its fourth week on the ranking.”
Through a video interview, TAEYANG explained the detailed process of album production, giving a track-by-track review from “RISE (INTRO)” to “LOVE YOU TO DEATH” in “RISE.”
About “RISE (INTRO),” he explained, “”The concept of the entire album was based off this song. If you hear the song you’ll understand, but it has a nature-like vibe to it with repetitive tropical sounds. The feel of the song reminded me of ‘Taeyang’ [which translates to sun in English], which led to writing songs based on the theme of ‘rise.’ You could say that this song is what started this album.”
About “1AM” he commented, “It has a very fun beat with a tempo that allows you to sway along. The lyrics are about thinking about a person you loved every night at 1:00 a.m. The content meshes really well with the uptempo beat, which allows the listener to feel an array of different feelings.” And about “STAY WITH ME,” which he worked with GD, he said, “I believe it’s an awesome song that shows the best of both G-DRAGON’s current musical style and color along with mine.”
He personally explained everything from “Ringa Linga,” “Body,” “This Ain’t It,” “Let Go” to “Love You To Death.”
TAEYANG has been sweeping across real-time, weekly and monthly charts with “EYES, NOSE, LIPS.” On Gaon’s June monthly chart released on July 10, he ranked #1 as well. He received a total of 8 trophies on 4 different music programs on Mnet, MBC, SBS and KBS2TV.
TAEYANG will be appearing on KBS2’s “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook” on July 11.
