TABLO’s cover of “EYES, NOSE, LIPS”: “Wanted to gift TAEYANG a song he would like”
[이데일리 정시내 기자] EPIK HIGH’s TABLO explained the reasons behind reinterpreting TAEYANG’s “Eyes, Nose, Lips” by covering it in his own style.
At 9 pm on June 25, YG Entertainment unveiled TABLO’s cover of the track on its official blog (www.yg-life.com). TABLO was the second artist to follow AKDONG MUSICIAN (AKMU) in covering TAEYANG’s song—he brought in a completely different but charming version of “Eyes, Nose, Lips” with English rapping and DJ TUKUTZ’s remix. Later, TAEYANG himself appears, creating an incredible vocal harmony with TABLO.
After the video was unveiled, TABLO explained, “Since the original version is already remarkable, I thought it was meaningless to cover it in a traditional way. I wanted to create a song that would make the original version stand out even more, and wanted to gift TAEYANG a song he would like.”
About re-creating the song in a rap version, he added, “As I produce both vocal-focused and rap-focused songs, it wasn’t much of a problem. And I had a lot of fun working with TAEYANG since we already worked on several songs like ‘TOMORROW,’ ‘LET GO’ and ‘LOVE YOU TO DEATH’.” He explained that he and TAEYANG collaborated in the joint intention of “giving joy to the listeners.”
On June 16, AKMU aroused much attention with their cover of the same track, especially for LEE CHAN HYUK’s rapping and LEE SOO HYUN’s clear voice. Many are giving high praises to the second video as well, where a perfectly new style was born through incredible synergy between TABLO and TAEYANG.
“Eyes, Nose, Lips” is extremely well received by the public for TAEYANG’s own lyrics-writing and his sentimental voice, along with the addictive chorus.
