Why CEO YANG chose AKDONG MUSICIAN as the second artist in line
[OSEN=손남원 기자] YG Family’s second artist of 2014 finally rose to the surface. The artist in point is AKDONG MUSICIAN, the newbie sister-brother duo. Being discovered in SBS’s audition program K-Pop Star, the two siblings already have the record of sweeping across music charts with their highly original songs even before their official debut.
YG’s founder YANG HYUN SUK announced on the official blog at midnight of March 31, “April 7th last year marked the final round of “K-Pop Star Season 2” and exactly in one year, on April 7th this year (2014), last year’s winner AKDONG MUSICIAN is scheduled to release their first debut album.”
YG hinted on March 21 through a graphic poster with a phrase “Who’s Next? 0407” who the second artist to be unveiled on April 7 would be. PSY seemed to be on top of the list as he revealed a spoiler of his music video, but it has been confirmed by the CEO’s announcement that the next artist of “0408” is AKDONG MUSICIAN.
2NE1, who was the first in line, was a huge success. They went beyond knocking down all South Korean charts and went on to break the record of K-Pop history on Billboard’s chart. Thus the music industries home and abroad have been keeping an eye on the next artist who would be taking 2NE1’s baton.
CEO YANG wrote, “Their first full album is to hold a total of 11 songs and LEE CHAN HYUK was in charge of producing as well as writing and composing all the songs. It has already been 16 years since YG began the music production business and choosing a title song has never been as difficult as doing so for AKDONG MUSICIAN’s first album.”
AKDONG MUSICIAN is a sibling duo that boasts a perfect harmony between LEE CHAN HYUK’s unique and witty self-composed songs and LEE SOO HYUN’s mesmerizing voice. The already-astonishing songs they possess are expected to perform greatly on music charts when they make a debut.
The duo’s schedule is revealed as well: “The MV of “200%” will be unveiled first with the album release on April 7th, and one week later, on April 14th, the MV of “MELTED” will be released. The third MV of the last title song chosen by the fans will be produced as soon as possible for revelation before the end of April.”
YANG added, “Apart from the two title songs chosen by AKDONG MUSICIAN and YG, the song that becomes most popular in one week after the album release on online music sites will be the third title song and we immediately start filming an MV of that song.”
AKDONG MUSICIAN said on K-Pop Star Season 2 aired on Nov 24 last year that their experience on the show was “dreamlike.”
The two added, “We used to simply enjoy music by playing the guitar in Mongolia, and now we are making an album. It’s absolutely unexpected. K-Pop Star was an amazing opportunity.”
