[Exclusive]YG CEO YANG HYUN SUK Says “The first collaboration between TEDDY and iKON turned out to be fantastic.”
[OSEN=손남원, 선미경 기자] YG’s top producer TEDDY and YG’s new boy group iKON have joined hands for iKON’s new single. Until now, TEDDY has mainly worked with BIGBANG and 2NE1. The collaboration song is BOBBY and B.I’s “ANTHEM”, which will be released on November 16. YG’s CEO YANG HYUN SUK said, “The moment I heard the song, it sent shivers down my spine. The song is fantastic.”
In the morning of November 9, YG posted a poster on its official blog that had “’11.21, 21:00” written on it. This implies that an YG artist will be making a comeback or a debut at 9 PM on November 21. Because of the number 21, many are guessing that 2NE1 will be making a comeback.
This year has been an eventful year for YG. BIGBANG made a comeback, and iKON debuted. PSY will be coming back next month. WINNER, who has recently filmed the MVs for their new singles in Sweden, is likely to make a comeback soon. Since none of YG’s female artists released a single or an album this year, many are betting that 2NE1 is the one that will be making a comeback.
OSEN had the chance to do a quick telephone interview with YG’s CEO YANG HYUN SUK, who is currently busy shooting for SBS’s popular audition show K-pop Star. We asked him if 2NE1 will be making a comeback on the 21st, but he avoided giving an answer. Instead, he talked about iKON, who will be releasing new singles on the 16th.
He said, “TEDDY participated in making the two singles that iKON will be releasing soon. I think they are better than ‘MY TYPE’. I am satisfied with the music that TEDDY and iKON produced together.” After saying “I’m in the middle of shooting for K-pop Star and I don’t have anything more to say”, he hanged up the phone.
YG’s monster rookie iKON debuted this fall taking both online and offline charts by storm. The second round of their debut project is about to begin under the theme of “iKON vs iKON.” iKON will be releasing two singles: a team song and a duet song by BOBBY and B.I. The team song is the title song and the duet song is the subtitle song, but TEDDY participated in making both songs.
BOBBY and B.I, who have worked with hit maker TEDDY for the first time, are also well known for their talent. As the rappers of iKON, they appeared in Mnet’s survival show “Show Me The Money 3”, gaining wide recognition among fans and fellow rappers. BOBBY became the winner of the season and has participated in making the music and the lyrics of iKON’s singles. B.I also participated in making the tracks of iKON’s debut half album, which was released last month, proving he has talent.
There was a slight change in iKON’s debut plan, and the release of their debut full album was delayed to December 14. They intention is to make a hit song that is better that their warm-up single “MY TYPE”. Since they have topped the charts with “MY TYPE” upon debut, it is important that they do as good as or even better.
Expectations are running high since much work has been put into iKON’s new singles. iKON’s previous singles – “MY TYPE” and “RHYTHM TA” all became hit songs with different appeals. It is expected that their new singles will be much better since TEDDY, YG’s top producer and the producer of BIGBANG’s MADE singles, has co-produced the singles. YG’s other main producers, such as CHOICE37 and KUSH, have also been put into iKON’s debut project.
