G-DRAGON Still Part of the YG Family After 24 Years
[OSEN=지민경 기자] Even after leaving YG, G-DRAGON and YG EXECUTIVE PRODUCER YANG HYUN SUK continue to share a warm bond. From the age of 13, G-DRAGON was brought into YG Entertainment by Yang Hyun Suk, where they developed a deep connection over two decades. Debuting as the leader of BIGBANG in 2006, G-DRAGON established himself as a top group leader and a recognized solo artist both domestically and internationally, under Yang’s comprehensive support.
During this time, Yang Hyun Suk shared knowledge across music and other areas, growing alongside G-DRAGON as a mentor, friend, and family. Their special relationship has continued even after G-DRAGON left YG.
After his contract with YG Entertainment ended last December, G-DRAGON signed with Galaxy Corporation and has been active in new ventures. Last month, he released his digital single ‘POWER’ after seven years and four months, proving his enduring influence in both the music and fashion industries.
Amid these developments, G-DRAGON’s strong ties with his original home, YG Entertainment, remain evident. He participated in composing the title track ‘DRIP’ for BABYMONSTER’s debut album from YG’s newest girl group.
G-DRAGON also made an appearance last month at the 2NE1 concert, showcasing his loyalty to the YG family. Notably, he was seen sitting next to YANG HYUN SUK, enjoying and discussing the performance together, which drew significant attention.
Furthermore, G-DRAGON shot the choreography video for his new song ‘POWER’ in YG Entertainment’s practice studio, indicating ongoing cooperation with YG after his agency switch. YG Entertainment has continued to provide strong support for G-DRAGON, who has shared many ups and downs with the company over more than 20 years.
Previously, YG transferred all trademarks related to G-DRAGON’s stage names, allowing him the freedom to use them in his solo activities.
The long-standing support between YG and G-DRAGON suggests that their close connection will continue well into the future.
