YG Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK Advises Even on Expressions: BABYMONSTER Fully Charged with YG DNA
[엑스포츠뉴스=명희숙 기자] BABYMONSTER has officially entered the music scene, armed with the “YG DNA,” and has ambitiously declared its intention to captivate both domestic and international audiences.
BABYMONSTER (AHYEON, RUKA, ASA, PHARITA, CHIQUITA, RORA, RAMI) held their first mini album ‘BABYMONS7ER’ release and official debut interview on the afternoon of April 1st in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, at YG Entertainment.
BABYMONSTER announced the start of their active promotions by releasing the title track ‘SHEESH’ at midnight. With a powerful hip-hop sound, they retain YG Entertainment’s existing color while showcasing their unique personality.
The members shared their thoughts on the team name, expressing their fondness for its intensity. RAMI stated, “As soon as we heard our team name, we immediately felt it suited us.”
ASA conveyed, “Rather than the word ‘baby’ denoting age, it represents the concept of children with ‘YG DNA,’ and we wish to continue showing our color and performing as BABYMONSTER regardless of our age.”
When asked about what ‘YG DNA’ means to them, AHYEON mentioned, “It might be the harmonious blend of seven distinct voices and each member’s uniqueness. Having ‘YG DNA,’ yet freely expressing ourselves and making music, is what true hip-hop is about.”
Despite the debut of several fifth-generation girl groups like UNIS, ILLIT, Candy Shop, and RESCENE, BABYMONSTER members are focused on their path with confidence, not paying much attention to their peers.
Nevertheless, they are keenly observing the performances of other groups. RORA explained, “We watch music shows to learn how our seniors perform and have learned a lot by rewatching stages of senior groups like 2NE1 and BLACKPINK.”
BABYMONSTER’s debut has also marked YG EXECUTIVE PRODUCER YANG HYUN SUK’s return as the chief producer, attracting considerable attention. The members expressed their gratitude for his invaluable advice and feedback.
RORA mentioned the privilege of working together, “We are very grateful for his always valuable feedback and advice.”
Specifically, RORA recounted advice received during the ‘SHEESH’ music video shoot, emphasizing the importance of expressions in the chorus, as advised directly by YANG HYUN SUK.
PHARITA shared her experience of receiving advice from senior artists during a survival show, highlighting the importance of focusing on personal growth rather than comparing oneself to others.
Their goal is to win the ‘New Artist’ award. RORA stated, “This promotion marks the first page and starting point as a complete group. We want to present BABYMONSTER to the public well, just as we received the New Artist award during our ‘BATTER UP’ activity.”
AHYEON emphasized meeting fans as their biggest goal, expressing joy over the increased opportunities to interact through music show activities.
CHIQUITA and RUKA expressed dreams of performing on stages like Lollapalooza and the Grammy Awards, and PHARITA added her desire to perform at Coachella in the distant future.”
