[엑스포츠뉴스=조혜진 기자] YG’s rookie girl group BABYMONSTER is making their presence felt globally even before their debut.

On the 24th (local time), the American music magazine Billboard selected BABYMONSTER as a “K-pop Artist to Watch,” highlighting the interest from global fans in the group.

Billboard predicted, “BABYMONSTER, who haven’t even released an album yet, will definitely create a new wave in the K-pop genre.” They pointed to the group’s solid performance capabilities and their potential to follow in the footsteps of BLACKPINK, a global top group, as the reasons.

Billboard also mentioned YG’s active promotions and the rapid rise of BABYMONSTER on YouTube. They recommended watching the group’s cover videos, including ‘Don’t Know What To Do,’ ‘Me, Myself & I,’ ‘Someone You Loved,’ and ‘traitor.’

The British music magazine NME also continuously covered BABYMONSTER’s debut reality show and the performance videos of the seven members, emphasizing their all-rounder talents. It’s unusual for trainees who have not yet debuted to be covered by prestigious foreign media outlets. As YG’s first girl group in about seven years since BLACKPINK, high expectations can be seen in the global music market.

Their power on YouTube is also impressive. As of the 25th, BABYMONSTER’s YouTube subscribers exceeded 1.82 million, and their cumulative content views surpassed 350 million.

Considering that these views were achieved only through pre-debut content such as live videos, dance performance videos, and individual introduction videos, without any music video releases or album promotions, this is a remarkable achievement.

Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER consists of multinational members, mostly in their teens, including three Koreans (AHYEON, HARAM, RORA), two Thais (PHARITA, CHIQUITA), and two Japanese (RUKA, ASA).
