YG’s Rookie Group BABYMONSTER…CHIQUITA Ranks First for Mid-check…Attention Drawn at the Final Rank
[헤럴드POP=박서현 기자] The talented girls of YG Entertainment’s newest girl group, BABYMONSTER, have stepped into the vocal solo mission, each member showcasing their unique flair with flawless cover performances.
On April 7th, YG Entertainment uploaded BABYMONSTER – Last Evaluation EP.5 on their official social media.
PHARITA, who previously won the blind test, was the first to take the stage. She delivered a heartfelt rendition of ‘All Of Me’ with her signature clear and refreshing vocals. YANG HYUN SUK, the executive producer, couldn’t help but praise her while listening with his eyes closed, saying that when he hears PHARITA’s voice, his heart feels at ease.
Next up, RORA captivated everyone with her powerful performance of ‘Someone You Loved’, showcasing not only her smooth vocal control but also her delicate emotions. Her perfect rendition made people forget about the original artist, and the audience erupted with applause, starting with YOON’s exclamation that it was so good!
ASA, known for her fast and intense rap skills, surprised everyone with a twist. She chose ‘Me, Myself & I’, which required both rap and high-level vocal skills. ASA practiced the same section 100 times and sang in front of her fellow members as if it was the actual evaluation, demonstrating her unrelenting efforts.
Her thrilling high notes and unique voice, combined with her self-made rap, captured everyone’s hearts. YG producers lauded her performance, saying her stage presence was incredible and her four years of practice paid off.
The fourth trainee, CHIQUITA, focused on practicing the charming high notes in traitor. CHIQUITA, who ranked first in the midterm review with her outstanding skills, was suddenly caught off guard by her worsening throat condition. The hospital test results confirmed she was infected with COVID-19. CHIQUITA expressed her concern about her voice not cooperating as she wanted and couldn’t hold back her tears of frustration.
Meanwhile BABYMONSTER is YG Entertainment’s first girl group in almost seven years after BLACKPINK. The potential members include three Koreans (AHYEON, HARAM, RORA), two Thais (PHARITA, CHIQUITA), and two Japanese (RUKA, ASA). The debut reality show Last Evaluation for selecting the final members is released every Friday at midnight.
