BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ MV Reaches 1.5 billion Views…Second Record of All Time

[OSEN=지민경 기자] The M/V for BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ reached more than 1.5 billion views on YouTube.

According to YG Entertainment on the 26th, the M/V for BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ surpassed 1.5 billion views on YouTube as of 6:39 p.m. on the 25th. This feat comes after 2 years and 9 months since it was released, showing the consistent love from global fans.

BLACKPINK now has two music videos which has more than 1.5 billion views. Previously, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ was a mega-hit and currently on the verge of reaching 1.8 billion views.

BLACKPINK and PSY are the only artists in South Korea who has a M/V that reached more than 1.5 billion views. ‘Kill This Love’ took over PSY’s ‘Gentleman’ which was released back in 2013 (1.4 billion views) and took the 3rd spot in K-POP history with the most number of views. When considering how the M/V for ‘Kill This Love’ was released in 2019, the steep increase in views is quite impressive.

‘Kill This Love’ is a song mainly composed of intense lead brass and powerful drum sounds. The M/V took over the hearts of fans from all around the world with their powerful yet charismatic dance moves, along with trendy visuals. In particular, the dance move where the girls make a gun-shooting gesture was considered to be an addictive point choreography. The song was the only K-POP song that got put up on the ‘10 Most Viewed Videos in the World in 2019’.

The song itself also achieved remarkable results. In the first week of release, ‘Kill This Love’ ranked 41st and 24th on U.S. Billboard’s main chart, the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 respectively, breaking the record as a K-POP girl group at the time. They were the only K-POP girl group to surpass 500 million streams on Spotify, the world’s largest music platform.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK has a total of 32 videos which reached more than one hundred million views on YouTube. They have more than 22.2 billion cumulative views and the number of subscribers currently exceeds 71.7 million, which is the most out of artists from all around the globe.
