[한국일보=홍혜민 기자] Group BLACKPINK pledged change and everyone to take part in climate actions for a better future at the ‘COP26’ where leaders from all around the world gathered. This shows YG Entertainment’s willingness to go through change.

BLACKPINK delivered such messages on the 1st and 2nd to world leaders at the World Leader’s Summit hosted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson via a conference call.

ROSE said “We believe taking measures for climate change is the most important issue of our time.” She ten added “6 years ago in Paris, you pledged to limit global warming ideally to 1.5 degrees. The recent UN panel on Climate Change warned that this opportunity may be slipping from our grasp.”

LISA then said “What we’ve feared is already happening. Intense changes are hurting our Earth”. She also warned by saying “If the world’s temperature rises by 2 degrees, one third of the world’s population will be regularly exposed to severe heat, leading to drought, health problems and death.”

JENNIE then said “Almost all warm water coral reefs would be destroyed and sea ice would melt and devastate wildlife.” She stressed “We need to take action right now for a better tomorrow”.

JISOO said “The important thing is that we all need to take responsibility because it just won’t be achieved without collective action. She then sent a message to world leaders saying “Please make the necessary decisions so that we can protect our Earth now and, in the future, too”.

Wrapping up their message, BLACKPINK said “We BLACKPINK, and BLINKS, our fans, our generation, and our world will be watching and hoping”. They then added “Let’s work together for our planet. And take climate action in your area.”

Attention is being drawn to YG’s moves to promote environment protection along with BLACKPINK’s positive influence in society. Although efforts are required across the whole industry, the fact that mega agency YG is taking the first step of action means a lot.

YG said “When creating our albums or MD, we’re considering digi-pacts that utilize paper than vinyl and we’re also in the process of receiving and checking biodegradable plastic samples made out of corn starch. We believe we can apply this to various products in the future.”

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK made their presence clear as a top girl-group by creating numerous hit songs since their debut in August 2016. They currently rank first in the number of YouTube subscribers among artists from all around the world with 69 million subscribers, and the total number of social networking followers of the members and their official accounts reach up to 250 million followers. Utilizing their powerful influence, the girls have been voicing out their opinions to protect the environment through social activities such as being ambassadors for UN SDGs and taking part in Google’s ‘Dear Earth’ campaign.
