BLACKPINK Appears on Japanese Music Program… Gathers Attention with ‘Charisma & Styling’
[동아닷컴=고영준 기자] BLACKPINK appeared on a representative Japanese music program and captured the local fans’ hearts with their dominant charisma and glamorous performance.
On TV Asahi’s ‘Music Station’ broadcasted on the 20th, BLACKPINK presented their performance of the Japanese version of ‘Lovesick Girls’, the title track from their first full-length album, for the first time.
Although the song is a well-known global hit, ‘Lovesick Girls’ performed in Japanese lyrics gave a different feeling to the local fans. BLACKPINK’s sturdy live skills despite their fierce choreography and unique styling captivated the viewers.
MC Tamori and host Namiki introduced BLACKPINK as “The hottest artists in the world”. Yamada Takayuki, the famous Japanese actor, and Kanechika from Japan’s famous gag duo EXIT emphasized the group’s global presence by adding, “We’re fans of BLACKPINK. It’s an honor to see them perform”.
Regarding the question on the title track ‘Lovesick Girls’, JISOO replied, “The message is about pursuing love even after getting hurt and wounded by love”. LISA explained, “We directly expressed the lyrics through our choreography. The gesture of expressing ‘Lovesick’ as if we head a headache and our move when we draw a big heart represents longing, and are the point moves of the song”.
The interview was performed through video call. The members stated, “We feel frustrated that we can’t make our appearance in person” and added, “THE ALBUM is just another beginning for us. We plan to visit you fans with better music, so please look forward to it”.
BLACKPINK has recently released ‘THE ALBUM -JP Ver.-‘ and was ranked at no. 1 on Oricon’s Daily Albums chart and the Japan Apple Music Top Albums chart. The songs from the album were placed on the top ranks of major music charts including Line Music and Japan iTunes, as well as dominating the top 10 spots on the AWA chart, proving the local fans’ enthusiastic response.
Meanwhile, over 1.3M copies of BLACKPINK’s first full-length album ‘THE ALBUM’ were sold after its release last year on the 10th, making them the first-ever K-Pop girl group million sellers(based on Hanteo/Gaon Charts). THE ALBUM’ has also topped iTunes Album charts in a total of 57 countries as well as being ranked at no. 2 on the US Billboard and UK’s Official Charts, renewing their own best K-Pop girl group record.
