YG TREASURE’s ‘Teen Crush’ Worked… Turns ‘Gayo Daejun’ into a Concert on ‘Another Level’
[OSEN=이승훈 기자] YG’s rookie group TREASURE dominated their first performance at SBS ‘Gayo Daejun’, proving their global super rookie-aspects.
TREASURE appeared on the ‘2020 SBS Gayo Daejun in DAEGU’ broadcasted on the 25th and presented a special performance as the next-generation wonder group.
After appearing in black suits, TREASURE brightened the red carpet with their prince-like visual. On the red-carpet interview, PARK JEONG WOO presented a guitar playing pose and raised people’s expectations by hinting, “We’ve prepared a performance we’ve never presented before”.
TREASURE’s performance was dominant. After appearing in black leather jackets, TREASURE grabbed the people’s attention with their organic ‘group dance’ performance. MASHIHO presented acrobatic moves and opened a glamorous intro for ‘Gayo Daejun’, while all 12 members of TREASURE continued to create moments of high-quality performances which proved the group’s competence.
After decorating the intro of ‘Gayo Daejun’, TREASURE switched up the mood with the title song ‘I LOVE YOU’ from their second single album. The members soaked the stage with winter night emotions when they performed ‘I LOVE YOU’, specially arranged with melodical piano and grand sounds. They also made the viewers cheer by presenting their unique teen-crush and Hip-hop swag through the performance of ‘BOY’, their debut song.
The highlight was the first performance of ‘MMM’, arranged in Rock version. TREASURE completed a tense stage on ‘MMM’ recreated with sophisticated sounds, which made the fans cheer. It showed TREASURE’s fast growth and capacity as they emitted strong charisma, explosive energy, and even an electrifying feeling.
Reactions on TREASURE’s performance at ‘Gayo Daejun’ were heated. They were ranked at no. 2 on the real-time searched keywords list on major Korean portal sites, while the hashtag ‘#TREASURE’ became the real-time popular trend on Twitter. The fans made positive reviews by commenting, “Their performance today was the best Christmas present”, “Can’t believe they’re rookies, everything was perfect”, “I was hypnotized and even forgot to breathe”.
Meanwhile, TREASURE has won the Rookie of the Year Award at the ‘2020 Asia Artist Awards’ as well as winning the honor of receiving the Best New Male Artist Award and a Main Award at the ‘2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards’, in 4 months since making debut.
The 3 single albums TREASURE has released since August have reached a total of over 700 thousand album sales, while all 3 title songs from the albums have topped global charts including the Top 100 chart of Line Music, which is Japan’s biggest music platform, as well as Rakuten Music’s Real-time Comprehensive Rankings.
