The Winter Playlist of ‘YG’s Rookie Group’ TREASURE?
[한국일보=홍혜민 기자] YG’s rookie group TREASURE recommended songs to welcome the winter and presented a ‘ear-candy live’ performance.
On December 16 at 12 PM, YG Entertainment uploaded ‘A 3 Minute TREASURE’, winter playlist episode.
Rappers of TREASURE including CHOI HYUN SUK and YOSHI were featured on the episode, along with vocalists JIHOON and BANG YE DAM. The 4 members sat alongside each other in a studio which reminded the viewers of a radio booth, introduced their favorite songs to listen to during winter, and presented a short live performance.
YOSHI’s recommendation was Lil Tachi and Hotchkiss’s ‘Snow (Prod. Giriboy)’. When the music started playing, YOSHI and CHOI HYUN SUK could not hide their excitements on the exciting melody and moved their shoulders up and down as making adlib reactions, showing off the fantastic teamwork of TREASURE’s rapper-line.
CHOI HYUN SUK selected MINO’s ‘Run away’. He selected the song since he wanted to run away from the cold winter as the title of the song suggests, and since the lyrics of the song fits well with winter. CHOI HYUN SUK covered the second verse of the song, showing off his sturdy skills by presenting fast-paced rap.
BANG YE DAM recommended Ardhito Pramono’s ‘925’. He introduced that one can feel a warm winter morning if the song is played along with morning coffee. He presented a live performance of a verse, showing off his relaxed and soulful voice.
JIHOON selected Yoo Jaeha’s ‘You in My Arms’. JIHOON introduced a special memory he has regarding the song, that he took the YG audition with it. When the music started playing, he made emotional hand gestures as if he was playing the keyboard along with the melody, as well as presenting winter vibes with his sweet vocals.
The song picked by all 4 members in the end was BLACKPINK’s ‘PLAYING WITH FIRE’. ‘PLAYING WITH FIRE’ was a song with memories healed members of TREASURE, since they’ve listened to the song often as warmup before taking dance lessons. They’ve also explained that they’ve also selected the song so people would take caution of fire during the winter. JIHOON also revealed his fan love towards the TREASURE Makers by yelling, “Playing with fire in your hearts!”.
Meanwhile, in 4 months after making debut, TREASURE has won the Rookie of the Year Award at the ‘2020 Asia Artist Awards’ as well as winning the Best New Male Artist Award and a Main Award at the ‘2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards’, which established themselves as global rising stars.
The 3 single albums TREASURE has released since August have reached a total of over 700 thousand album sales, while all 3 title songs from the albums have topped global charts including the Top 100 chart of Line Music, which is Japan’s biggest music platform, as well as Rakuten Music’s Real-time Comprehensive Rankings.
