YG TREASURE Wins 2 Trophies on ‘2020 MAMA’ in 4 Months Since Debut… New History Written by the Monster Rookies

[OSEN=지민경 기자] YG’s rookie group TREASURE not only won the BEST NEW MALE ARTIST award at the ‘2020 MAMA’, but also won a main award, winning a total of 2 trophies. Their performance proved their nickname ‘the monster rookies’ as well as their recent fame, as well as making the global fans’ hearts flutter once again.

At the ‘2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards’ held on December 6, TREASURE received the BEST NEW MALE ARTIST award in addition to one of the main awards which was titled the ‘Worldwide Fans’ Choice TOP 10’ award.

Leader CHOI HYUN SUK revealed his overwhelming emotions by stating, “We’ve achieved two goals today. It is an honor just to perform at MAMA, and we can’t believe we even received the Best New Male Artist award. Under YG’s fast∙concentrated strategy, TREASURE has successfully released 3 single albums in 3 months since their debut made on August 7. The 3 single albums have surpassed a total of 700 thousand in sales, while title songs from all 3 albums swept various global charts including the Top 100 chart of Line Music, Japan’s biggest music platform, and Rakuten Music’s Real-time Comprehensive Rankings.

The group also entered the top ranks of US Billboard’s Social and Emerging Artists chart, showing the fastest growing trend not only as a rookie, but also as the early stages of a group launched in YG history. They have been acknowledged as the biggest rookies of 2020.

TREASURE did not stop at the ‘Best New Male Artist’ award. After receiving their second rookie award following their award received at the ‘2020 Asia Artist Awards’, TREASURE was also listed on MAMA’s ‘Worldwide Fans’ Choice TOP 10’. The scene of 12 robot arms shooting lasers to the members’ hearts emphasized TREASURE’s charismatic charms on stage, notifying the birth of a legendary performance which the viewers cannot take their eyes off.

Furthermore, the performance of ‘I LOVE YOU’ newly arranged with beautiful piano accompaniment and grand sounds was revealed for the first time and captivated the fans’ hearts. TREASURE’s mellow vocals and soft dance lines stood out. The Hip-hop song ‘MMM’ then created a contrasting vibe and decorated the glamorous finale by leading the viewers to the climax. TREASURE’s unique teen-crush group dance and Hip-hop swag shined throughout the changing beat, which were enough to excite the entire MAMA.

The global fans cheered after TREASURE presented their performance at MAMA. TREASURE’s YouTube channel subscribers rapidly increased and surpassed 3M, while ‘TREASURE’ and ‘#TREASURE_at_MAMA’ decorated the real-time searched keywords of various portal sites and Twitter’s Worldwide Trend Rankings.
