YG’s Rookie Group TREASURE Tops Hanteo·Gaon Weekly Album Charts
[뉴스엔=이민지 기자] YG’s rookie group TREASURE dominated major Korean album charts with their debut album.
According to Gaon’s Retail Album chart for the 33rd week of 2020(2020.08.09~2020.08.15) announced on August 17 and Hanteo’s Weekly Album chart(2020.08.10~2020.08.16), TREASAURE’s debut single album ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER ONE’ was ranked at no. 1.
‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER ONE’ released on the 13th topped the real-time chart on the album category of Hanteo Charts on the date of its release, reaching the biggest album sales among all K-Pop rookies who have made debut this year. Furthermore, total sales of 129,314 and 128,767 were accumulated on Gaon Chart and Hanteo Chart respectively, which is an amazing figure.
TREASURE’s debut album has surpassed 200 thousand pre-orders even before its release, so successful results were expected. Their album was sold not only in Korea, but many orders also came from countries overseas including Japan, China, the US, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
The group not only achieved high album sales but also achieved successful results on music charts overseas, proving their popularity as a group which targeted the global market from the start. TREASURE’s title song ‘BOY’ topped iTunes Top Song charts in 19 different countries including Hong Kong and Singapore after its release on the 7th. The song was also listed on the top ranks of 5 major charts of QQ Music, China’s biggest music platform, as well as being ranked at no. 1 on QQ Music’s Top Rising chart in less than 24 hours since they’ve made debut.
Their market power in Japan also grabbed the people’s attention. ‘BOY’ topped the Real-time Song Top 100 chart of Line Music, Japan’s biggest music platform, Rakuten Music’s Real-time Comprehensive Rankings, and AWA’s Top Rising chart, making an unusual debut. The song then topped Line Music’s Daily chart for 3 consecutive weeks and was listed on the top ranks of the Weekly chart(2020.08.05~2020.08.11), proving their consistent popularity in Japan.
The MV for ‘BOY’ also surpassed 10M views on YouTube in 26 hours since its release and surpassed 20M views in approximately 6 days. The dance practice video also reached 3M views at a fast pace, which is exceptional for a rookie group. Their YouTube channel subscribers are also increasing rapidly and is currently at 1.89M.
TREASURE is YG’s major rookie group launched in 4 years since BLACKPINK. Composed of 12 members including CHOI HYUN SUK, JIHOON, YOSHI, JUNKYU, MASHIHO, YOON JAE HYUK, ASAHI, BANG YE DAM, DOYOUNG, HARUTO, PARK JEONG WOO, and SO JUNG HWAN, the group is receiving attention as the biggest rookies of K-Pop in 2020, targeting the global market.
