BLACKPINK, The ‘Untouchable’ Force This Summer
[매일경제 스타투데이=박세연 기자] Group BLACKPINK swept various monthly charts of July with ‘How You Like That’, proving themselves as the untouchable force in music charts.
According to Gaon’s Monthly chart for July announced on the 6th, BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ won a total of 3 titles by dominating Digital·Streaming·Social charts. Furthermore, they also swept monthly charts of music platforms including Melon, Genie, Naver, and more.
BLACKPINK’s popularity was expected as soon as their song was released. The pre-release title song ‘How You Like That’, released back in June 26, topped real-time charts of Korean music platforms as soon as it was released, achieving a perfect all-kill.
The song also won 13 Korean music broadcast titles and maintained its no. 1 spot on Melon for approximately a month, proving their heated popularity.
BLACKPINK also achieved remarkable success in the global music scene. The song topped iTunes charts in 64 different countries including the US, topped Japan’s Line Music, and won 3 titles on QQ Charts, which is China’s biggest music platform. The song was also ranked at no. 20 on UK’s Official Singles Top 100 and at no. 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100, setting the best record in K-Pop girl group history, as well as maintaining their chart-in position for 2 and 4 weeks, respectively. The song also set the best K-Pop group record on the Global Top 50 chart of Spotify, the world’s biggest music streaming platform, as no. 2.
BLACKPINK’s record march also shined on YouTube. The MV was listed on 5 categories of the Guinness World Records including the ‘Most Watched Video on YouTube in 24 Hours’ category by reaching 86.3M views on the date of its release. The video then surpassed 100M views in 32 hours, 200M views in 7 days, and 300M views in 21 days, setting the fastest records in YouTube MV history. The video will soon reach 400M, as well as setting another world record.
BLACKPINK will release their second pre-release single on the 28th and release their debut album in 4 years on October 2. YG has previously emphasized, “BLACKPINK will target the global market with systematic and rigorous planning and execution of those plans in 2020”.
