BLACKPINK JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ MV Hits 500M Views… First·Highest in Korean Female Solo Artist History
[OSEN=지민경 기자] BLACKPINK JENNIE set another first·highest record on YouTube as a Korean female solo artist, solidifying her unrivaled position.
According to YG Entertainment on July 28, JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ MV surpassed 500M views on YouTube as of 4:20 AM.
It is rare for music videos released by solo artists to reach hundreds of millions of views, but JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ went way beyond and proved the global fans’ consistent love and support, which adds more meaning to the new record.
JENNIE, as the first runner of BLACKPINK’s solo project, released ‘SOLO’ back in November 2018 which dominated real-time·daily·weekly music charts of major Korean music platforms.
The song also had strong global influence. ‘SOLO’ topped iTunes charts in 40 different countries as well as topping the iTunes Worldwide Song chart for the first time as a Korean female solo artist, as well as entering the Top 10 of iTunes chart in the US.
Using the momentum, the ‘SOLO’ MV surpassed 100M views in 23 days since its release, setting the fastest record in Korean female solo artist history. The video then surpassed 200M views in 90 days, 300M views in 182 days, 400M views in 13 months, renewing its own best record.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK, the group JENNIE is part of, has set the fastest·first·highest records on major global music charts and on YouTube with their latest pre-release single, ‘How You Like That’, which raised the status of K-Pop once again.
In addition to the MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, which holds the highest view counts among all K-Pop group MVs with 1.2B views, BLACKPINK holds a total of 20 videos with over 100M views while their channel has a dominant number of subscribers as well. They have 42.6M subscribers, which is the highest figure among all female artists in the world.
BLACKPINK will release their second single with a special collaboration artist in upcoming August. The people are paying keen attention on what artist they’ve worked with and what kind of new records they will set through their upcoming release, since the group has already received favorable reviews through their collaboration with Pop star Lady Gaga back in May.
