[한경닷컴=이준현 기자] BLACKPINK set another milestone by reaching 40M subscribers on YouTube.

According to YG Entertainment on July 2, as of 11:40 AM, BLACKPINK’s official YouTube account surpassed 40M subscribers. It is the first and biggest figure among all accounts by K-Pop boy and girl group·solo accounts. It is also the 6th in the world among all artists. They have added 3M new subscribers in less than a week since they released ‘How You Like That’ last month on the 26th.

The number of subscribers on YouTube is one of the indexes that objectively display an artist’s global popularity and recognition. ‘Subscribing to a channel’ is a barometer to measure anticipation on upcoming contents and steady interest, which makes BLACKPINK’s new record worthy of attention.

In fact, BLACKPINK’s record march on YouTube is unrivaled. The ‘How You Like That’ MV set a world record on the date of its release with 86.3M views and became the ‘Most Watched Video on YouTube in 24 Hours’. Furthermore, it achieved 5 Guinness World Records as the ‘Most Watched Music Video on YouTube in 24 Hours’, and the ‘Most Watched K-Pop Music Video in 24 Hours’.

BLACKPINK has previously surpassed 10M subscribers on YouTube for the first time as a K-Pop girl group back in July 2018, allowing them to receive the ‘Diamond Creator Award’.

Furthermore, the title song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ from their first-ever mini album ‘SQUARE UP’ released back in 2018 surpassed 1.2B views on YouTube last month on the 29th, setting a new record. It was the first time a K-Pop group MV reached the according figure.

BLACKPINK has a total of 6 MVs with over 500M views including ‘BOOMBAYAH’(800M), ‘Kill This Love’(800M), ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’(700M), and ‘WHISTLE’(500M). Including all music videos and dance practice videos, BLACKPINK has a total of 19 videos with over 100M views, which is the most among all K-Pop girl groups.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is also performing well on major global music charts with ‘How You Like That’. ‘How You Like That’ was ranked at no. 2 on the Global Top 50 chart of Spotify, the world’s biggest music streaming platform, as well as topping iTunes charts in 64 different countries, including the US. The song is also maintaining its no. 1 spot on major Korean music charts for 7 consecutive days.
