BLACKPINK’s First-Ever Performance in the US Praised by Foreign Media… “Standing Ovation by Important Figures of the Music Industry”

[OSEN=장진리 기자] BLACKPINK finished their first-ever performance in the US through the Grammy Artist Showcase with success.

On February 9 (local time), BLACKPINK performed at Universal Music Group’s Grammy Artist Showcase held in LA, California as the representatives of Interscope Records.

The Grammy Artist Showcase was BLACKPINK’s first-ever performance in the US, signifying BLACKPINK’s debut in the US market. BLACKPINK notified their US debut with glamorous performances of ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and ‘FOREVER YOUNG’ in front of local music industry officials who lead the global music trend.

Prior to BLACKPINK’s performance, Universal Music Group introduced the group by stating, “The MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ reached the highest number of YouTube views among all groups of K-Pop” and added, “Please welcome the first-ever US performance of BLACKPINK, the group that’s currently going through a 2019 world tour”.

The Grammy Artist Showcase features the performances of artists prior to the opening of the Grammy Awards, which is the world’s best music awards ceremony. The best Pop stars including Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Sam Smith, Demi Lovato, and Migos have previously performed at the Grammy Artist Showcase.

This year’s showcase featured global artists including Post Malone, Lil Baby, J Balvin, Ella Mai, and Greta Van Fleet in addition to BLACKPINK. BLACKPINK signified their expansion to the US market as a ‘global girl group’ by performing at the Grammy Artist Showcase, the event where Universal Music Group introduces its best Pop artists.

BLACKPINK received praises from important figures of the music industry who visited the showcase by presenting a professional performance, although the stage was their first-ever performance in the US. The most influential figures of the music industry who leads the Pop scene of the US including Lucian Grainge of Universal Music Group attended the Grammy Artist Showcase. BLACKPINK grabbed everyone’s attention with a perfect and differentiated performance.

Foreign media also spotlighted BLACKPINK’s debut performance. AP News and the New York Times spotlighted BLACKPINK’s first-ever performance in the US by writing, “Many users of social media wanted to watch BLACKPINK perform” and added, “The girl group from Korea received a standing ovation after their performance was over”.

Billboard notified that BLACKPINK had their first-ever performance in the US through the showcase, as a headline of the comprehensive article covering the Grammy Artist Showcase. Billboard praised BLACKPINK by writing, “BLACKPINK who had their ‘first-ever performance in the US’ fascinated the audience in an instant with looks which reminded people of the movie ‘Clueless’ and their Pop track ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ which contains elements of Trap music, in addition to the song’s eye-catching choreography”.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will follow up their successful debut performance in the US by meeting the US viewers through their appearances on popular American TV shows including ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ and ‘Good Morning America’.
