iKON, No. 1 in Weekly Charts For 4 Consecutive Weeks… Longest Record Among Boy-Groups in 10 Years
[매일경제 스타투데이=성정은 기자] iKON has successfully positioned themselves as the ‘hottest icons of 2018’ in K-POP, as ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ becomes the most successful record among other records by all idol boy-groups in Korea, released in the past 10 years.
While continuing their no. 1 march in domestic music charts for 33 consecutive days, iKON achieved another ‘perfect all-kill’ in weekly charts, following their domination of real-time and daily charts.
Today (26th), ‘LOVE SCENARIO’, the title song from iKON’s 2nd official album was marked at no. 1 in all 8 major weekly charts in Korea including Melon, Mnet, Naver Music, Genie, Soribada, Monkey 3, Bugs, and Olleh. This indicates a 4-week consecutive no. 1 in weekly charts, adding more meaning to iKON’s new achievement.
It’s the longest record among boy-groups since BIGBANG from YG Entertainment set the record with 8 weeks with the song ‘LAST FAREWELL’ and 7 weeks with the song ‘HARU HARU’, back in 2008.
As iKON stands beside the few boy and girl groups that achieved the 4-week consecutive no. 1 in the past 9 years, people are wondering how high iKON will continue to rise.
Furthermore, since the reformation of music streaming charts took place last year on February, iKON became the first idol group to maintain no. 1 position for 4 consecutive weeks. The chart reform took place to prevent rank distortion and abuse during midnight hours. iKON overcame the handicap of reform which mostly affected idol groups, and proved that their popularity is from not only fans but also from the public.
iKON, who is establishing themselves as ‘new-record machines’ won 4 crowns in music broadcasts, and is planning to continue active promotion through diverse media channels including variety and radio programs.
