[Oh!SSEN FOCUS] “Monster Vocal”…BANG YE DAM Revealed From YG’s Jewel Box
[OSEN=선미경 기자] YANG HYUN SUK was indeed a man of insight. BANG YE DAM, once again, captured everyone’s eyes. He proved his growth over the last 4 years, displaying extraordinary talent in his comeback on screen. Fans are now eager to see BANG YE DAM make debut.
BANG YE DAM first let the people know his face through ‘K-Pop Star’ Season 2, the audition program from SBS back in 2012. BANG YE DAM won 2nd place although he was in elementary school back then. He surprised the judges from the preliminary round with his exceptional talent. After ‘K-Pop Star’ season 2, he entered YG as a trainee getting ready for debut.
As people showed a lot of love for BANG YE DAM in ‘K-Pop Star 2’, many fans were waiting for his debut and the public paid attention to him every time his name came up in the press. He wasn’t forgotten for 4 years because he was a talented contestant. While his name is being mentioned as the lead vocalist for a new boy-group that will launch in YG, he proved the reason why through Mnet’s survival program ‘Stray Kids’ which aired on November 21.
On ‘Stray Kids’, the traditional battle between YG and JYP was revealed. It was a battle between Stray Kids and YG’s new boy-group. CHOI RAE SUNG, known as the dance child prodigy also appeared on the show along with BANG YE DAM, building up attention. BANG YE DAM’s appearances and skills that grew rapidly over the past 4 years made the people more eager to see him make debut.
YG’s YANG HYUN SUK stated, “Since he was really popular in ‘K-Pop Star’, people were wondering about BANG YE DAM. I wanted to show his vocal talent just to tell them ‘He made it this far’. He studies well too. I’ve heard he’s top-class at his school”, while introducing BANG YE DAM.
BANG YE DAM stated before his performance, “I was under pressure. I didn’t want to disappoint the people, and I wanted to show that I improved”. Although he must’ve been under pressure as everyone was paying attention, he proved his abilities on stage. He captured Park Jin Young’s mind with his attractive vocals. He proved his 4-year training and growth progress within a few minutes on stage, displaying both talent and potential.
Park Jin Young highly praised him as well. He was surprised, and stated, “BANG YE DAM is BANG YE DAM”. He continued, “His ability to understand the mood and characteristics of a song and interpret it on stage is amazing. It’s not easy to sound so good in mid-range at the beginning. It’s an enormous strength to sound good at mid-range. He will become a monster vocalist. I have high expectations”, displaying his expectations on BANG YE DAM’s future.
The high praise had a reason. The viewers were also amazed by the short performance by BANG YE DAM on ‘Stray Kids’. He became a hot topic once again after the show airing, and more fans are eager to see BANG YE DAM make debut. Another gem from YANG HYUN SUK’s jewel box is about to be revealed.
