[엑스포츠뉴스=김유진 기자] US Billboard wrote about BOBBY’s first solo album.

The magazine started off by saying “Three years after winning the third season of the South Korean rap competition Show Me The Money, K-hip-hop artist Bobby dropped his first album on Thursday (Sept. 14). The ten-track Love and Fall is fronted by dual singles ‘I Love You’ and ‘Runaway,’ which the iKON member released a pair of music videos for on the same day. Bobby co-wrote the music and lyrics for each of the album’s songs……”

It went on to say, “It is far from Bobby’s first show of his talent, but his debut album’s emphasis on emotive melodies does offer up a more introspective side to the star, who has previously veered towards bombastic rap tracks.”

Billboard also commented on the title tracks of BOBBY’s album. It wrote, “With a tender, upbeat melody, ‘I Love You’ is a trendy electro-pop track that follows the general vibe of other releases put out this summer by artists under Bobby’s label, YG Entertainment, such as WINNER and AKMU. Paired with it is the contrasting ‘Runaway,’ an emotive rap song with pop-rock elements that explores the anxiety of youth, with the two songs reflecting the opposing elements of the titular Love and Fall.”

“The music video for ‘Runaway’ begins with a quotation from Psalms before shifting into a gloomy, thunderstorm-filled scene that poises Bobby as a young child looking to runaway. As the video continues, the star is seen in a variety of tumultuous scenes, and even running across an American highway while singing the song’s ‘I wanna runaway’ chorus, only to find peace among a church and its serene surroundings. As dark as ‘Runaway’ is, the music video for ‘I Love You’ is a complete turnaround: Bright and summery, it’s a visual representation of happy times, showing Bobby playing around on a beach and in pools. Surrounded by palm trees, he enjoys his time with a woman the song is ostensibly about, reveling in the warm feelings of love”, the magazine added.

Billboard ended its article by saying, “The overall mellow vibe of Love and Fall’s tracks introduce a different side to Bobby, moving him away from the swaggering styling of his past releases and towards more sentimental melodies, as well as placing an emphasis not only on his rap but also his singing. Along with the singles, the album explores a variety of subjects, and features Mino, iKON’s DK, and Katie Kim, a new artist signed to YG Entertainment.”

Meanwhile, BOBBY’s first solo album topped the iTunes charts in 22 countries upon release. The album became No.6 on the US’s chart, proving BOBBY’s popularity in the biggest music market in the world and signaling the success of his solo debut.
