[Oh! Music] Four-member WINNER Takes the World by Storm
[OSEN=김은애 기자] WINNER is a winner on the charts too. Upon comeback, the group is dominating the charts in and out of Korea.
On April 4, WINNER’s new EP “FATE NUMBER FOR” was released online. The album is consisted of two titles tracks, “REALLY REALLY” and “FOOL”.
Upon release, WINNER’s new album swept the realtime charts in Korea. Although there were fierce competitors, WINNER remained high up on the charts. As of 1 PM on April 6, WINNER’s new song is still No.1 on the charts of Korea’s biggest online music provider Melon.
WINNER’s new album is also going viral outside of Korea. WINNER took the No.1 spot of the iTunes chart in 21 countries and has received favorable reviews from the Billboard magazine.
On the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart, which rates the albums released all around the world based on their copies sold, WINNER ranked third place. WINNER is now the first Korean artist to make it to the top 10 of this chart.
Given that the first place went Ed Sheeran, and the second place to Jamiroquai, WINNER ranking third place along with Adele, and Drake is even more meaningful.
China is not an exception. On April 5, WINNER’s “FOOL” and “REALLY REALLY” took the top two spots on the KPOP MV Chart of QQ Music, China’s biggest online music streaming website that boasts 400 million users per month. WINNER’s songs were also high up on other major Chinese charts.
The music videos are setting new records every day too. As of 8 AM on April 6, the music video of “REALLY REALLY” posted 3, 412,952 and the music video of “FOOL” posted 2,627,538 YouTube views. Combined, the two music videos recorded 6,040,490 views. The speed of music videos hitting new highs is the fastest since WINNER’s debut.
It’s even more surprising when you consider that WINNER had been on a hiatus for 14 months. Although a member left and WINNER became a four-member group, they succeeded in turning the crisis into an opportunity. It also shows how many fans all around the world have been waiting for WINNER’s comeback.
In Japan, WINNER is to release its new songs at 12 AM on April 7. Last year, WINNER succeeded in drawing 36,000 people during its concert tour. Since it’s been a long break, WINNER’s comeback is expected to sweep the charts in Japan too. Expectations are running high for WINNER as they keep on setting new records.
