[News Flash] iKON Becomes the Third Korean Artist to Win the Best New Artist at Japan Record Awards
[OSEN=김제이 기자] iKON was named as the winner of the Best New Artist Award at the Japan Record Awards, which took place on December 30 in Tokyo, Japan. This came as a surprise as the K-Pop boom in Japan is in decline.
iKON is the third Korean singer to win the prestigious award after BIGBANG in 2009 and Yang Soo Kyung in 1990.
iKON is to make a comeback in January next year and do a show on Naver V App soon. iKON is one of the two leading rookies of YG, and it toured around Japan mostly in 2016. In the case of WINNER, the other YG rookie, its members did this and that individually this year. Both groups are getting ready to make a comeback in 2017. YG is doing its utmost to make their comebacks successful and hinted that there will be good news soon.
Earlier on, iKON won the Tencent QQ Music Asia Star Award at the 2016 Melon Music Awards, which was held at the Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul on December 19.
After receiving the award, iKON said, “Thank you very much. We toured around a lot this year and tried our best to put on great performances. We will come back next year with new music and performances and show you a whole new stage. We can’t wait. Thank you.” iKON also won the Melon New Artist Award last year.
