[OSEN=선미경 기자] SECHSKIES has been revived. The group has reunited after a 16-year break, but its reunion is not just a one-time event. YG Entertainment gave SECHSKIES wings to fly, and now the first-generation idol group is going viral in and out of Korea.
SECHSKIES released its new album “2016 Re-ALBUM” on December 1, and the album swept the charts abroad for the first time ever for the group. Now, the meaning of SECHSKIES’s reunion has become clear. YANG HYUN SUK’s full support and SECHSKIES’s hard work made all this possible.
SECHSKIES’s new album is like a present to the fans in that it consists of the group’s old songs rearranged by YG producers. According to YG staff, YANG HYUN SUK recently said to SECHSKIES members, “The Re-ALBUM is just an end-of-the-year present for the fans. You have to release new songs early next year without taking a break. You guys have been taking a break for 16 years. No need to take more breaks.”
He added, “You have to keep on so that SECHSKIES’s comeback does not become a one-time event. Only then can we call SECHSKIES’s reunion successful.” Indeed, YANG HYUN SUK spared no effort in supporting SECHSKIES’s comeback. He took charge of making preparations for SECHSKIES’s solo concert and release of its new single. The remake album was also YANG HYUN SUK’s idea.
Following YANG HYUN SUK’s advice, SECHSKIES will hold a solo concert and release new songs next year, which marks the 20th anniversary of the group’s debut. SECHSKIES members are currently working on their new songs, and the solo concert is likely to take place in April next year. It will be a perfect present for SECHSKIES’s fans.
Another notable fact is that SECHSKIES’s new album became no.1 abroad. The album took the no.1 spot on the iTunes chart of Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. It is the first time that SECHSKIES took the no.1 spot on the charts abroad.
YANG HYUN SUK said, “I’m very much satisfied with the results. I didn’t expect much as it was a remake album. But I’m truly thankful to their fans. I’m also thankful to SECHSKIES members for working day and night for the album.” About their album taking no.1 spot on the charts abroad, SECHSKIES thanked YANG HYUN SUK and said it was possible because YG has so many fans abroad.
