The best K-pop video on YouTube for this year was BIGBANG

[이데일리=김현아 기자] YouTube (www.youtube.com) has released the list of K-pop music videos that are most-watched around the world.

The songs of BIGBANG’s new album “MADE” project with which BIGBANG met fans in and out of the country after three years of absence obviously stood out. The video of “BANG BANG BANG” that was unveiled along with the release of the song and “LOSER” that was extolled as a song that reveals BIGBANG’s unique sensitivity took No.1 and No.2, respectively. The music video of “BAE BAE” (4th place) and “Let’s Not Fall in Love” (6th place) whose lyrics express the heart of a man in love, and the video of “SOBER” (9th) that has outstandingly sophisticated melody and dreamy imagery all put their names on the list, proving BIGBANG’s big popularity as a world-famous musician. 

The video of EXO’s “CALL ME BABY” that has garnered more than 60 million views since its release in March until now, as well as the video of “LOVE ME RIGHT” with impressively catchy chorus part took the third and 10th place, respectively. 

The video of Girls’ Generation’s “PARTY” (5thplace) that led the comeback of the eight girls to a great success, 4MINUTE’s “Crazy” (7th place) with a charismatic performance, and miss A’s “Only You” (8th place) that drew keen attention upon its release were also included in the list, demonstrating worldwide popularity of female K-pop singers. 

◇ The fastest-growing Korean YouTube channel is BIGBANG channel

Meanwhile, the YouTube channel whose number of subscribers increased the most from Nov. 24, 2014 to Nov. 23, 2015 was also “BIGBANG” who took No.1 on YouTube K-Pop segment.

“SM TOWN” and ”1theK” followed BIGBANG, in the second and third place, respectively. The channels of “JYP Entertainment”, “KBS World TV”, and “officialpsy” of PSY who has recently made fancy comeback with the 7th album took the 5th, 6th, and 7th place, respectively. 

One thing remarkable here is that as many as 16 channels in the list have more than 70% of their subscribers from overseas. That shows growing interest and popularity of Korean contents among Internet users around the world. 

Such global fandom for Korean contents is also demonstrated on personal creators’ channels that are being expanded into a variety of fields.

Individual contents creators such as “ToyPudding” (4th place) that mostly reviews toys, “NaoDisneyToys” (14th), “Waveya” (11th) that presents videos of K-pop cover dance and that has more than 1.5 million subscribers, and “Eugenie Kitchen” (13th) that is drawing big popularity with demonstration of visually-appealing cooking are also known to have more than 70% of their subscribers from overseas. 

◇ “Cooking” and “Eating” shows create sensation

For this year, contents related with cooking and foods drew the biggest attention, to an extent that everyone’s biggest interest was “taste”. 

On YouTube as well, food-related contents with innovative format, such as “Cook-broadcasting” that introduces special cooking methods and “Eat-broadcasting” that shows people eating food deliciously drew big popularity.

“Rainbow Heart Cookies Slice & Bake Surprise” video that introduces how to easily bake rainbow cookies took No.1, “Baking double-layered cake: How to put icing on a cream cake” video that unveiled step-by-step knowhow about placing cream on cake took the sixth place, and “Jibanyang Cake Baking” video that presented a cake shaped in popular characters from Japanese animation movies took the seventh place.

The video titled “British people who tried ‘Chicken & Beer’ for the first time” of “Korean Britishman”, a contents creator who is drawing big popularity with videos that introduce different cultures of Korea and the U.K., took the second place.

Video titled “Surviving Harry Potter Jelly Beans” (4th) that have unfamiliar tastes like worm-taste, dirt taste, and soap tastes, “Eating 10 bowls of black bean noodles” (5th) of creator Benzz who is famous as a big eater who always cleans up dishes, and “Eating crazy Toppokki” (9th) that makes your tongue feel tinging even by just seeing also put their names in the list, riding on the trend of popularity of “Eating broadcasting” shows. 

◇ Outstanding growth of kids’ contents such as toy reviews

Videos of toy reviews and play reviews have drawn worldwide popularity. A video that shows colorful toy bus sets of “Tayo mini-friends, toy cars” recorded the highest number of views in this segment, followed by ToyPudding’s “Kongsun-i, 911 Hospital Play and Pororo Frozen play set” that took the second place.

Videos of Korea’s animation movies also showed big popularity.

“Kongsun-I’s dance class – Kongsun-I’s doctor song” in the fourth place recorded more than 20 million views even though it is a video of children’s song in Korean, drawing a big popularity worldwide.

Tayo channel’s “Tayo Full Episodes S2 E17-19” proved high popularity by taking the 5th place, followed by “Pororo’s habit play episode 01-13” in which characters from “Proro & Friends” teach right habits in the sixth place. “Robocar Poli (Eng.) S1 episode 01-26” (9th place) video also put its name in the list.
