[Exclusive] BOBBY has taken his parents to Korea, realizing his long-time wish “A good son”
[OSEN=손남원 기자] There was a Korea-American boy who was good at rapping. In a poor but happy family with caring and supporting parents, the boy could pursue his dream, “I’ll go to Korea and be a successful singer there. I’ll take my parents to the home country, to live with them happily ever after.” This is a story of BOBBY who made public appearance in fall, 2015, as a monstrous rookie.
The dream has been realized. According to an YG insider, BOBBY has recently taken his parents to Seoul to show his success and his parents was so happy to the point of crying. BOBBY passed YG’s audition in the States at a very young age and came to Korea alone to live at the company’s dormitory, but now, he is staying with his family and getting more energy for his success from his parents.
In the YG audition five or six years ago, young BOBBY touched the heart of head producer YANG HYUN SUK and other judges by saying, “My dream is to take my parents back to Korea and make them live happily there”. The judges was surprised not only by BOBBY’s natural-born musical talent and abilities, but also by the young boy’s deep love for his parents.
Even after BOBBY came to Korea as a trainee of YG, he has consistently expressed his love for family and the heart missing his parents. In “MIX & MATCH” show, which was the final audition for selection of iKON’s members, BOBBY cried and said, “I should have worked harder to take my parents to Korea sooner… I’m so sorry”, to make the hearts of his fans break.
The biggest opportunity for BOBBY’s parents to live a happy life with their son in Korea was BOBBY’s victory in Mnet’s “Show Me the Money” show in September last year. BOBBY’s label YG gave all the 100 million won without receiving any agent fee, to the boy who always said “my dream is to buy a good house to my mom who worked too hard for me”. OSEN reported back then, “YG’s head YANG HYUN SUK gave directions to YG staff that all the prize money of 100 million won be given to BOBBY without deducting any share for the company and expenditures covered by the company. YANG has trained BOBBY so harshly, but has always cared about the difficulties of BOBBY’s family and his love and devotion to his family”.

BOBBY once talked about his sad feelings for his mother who has worked too hard to support her son. In “Show Me the Money 3”, BOBBY cried while saying, “I’m here in Korea to pursue my dream, separated from my mom. It’s been four years since I saw her last time (as of 2014). When I see mom’s recent pics posted on my elder brother’s social media account, that makes me smile. I miss her every day.”
BOBBY renewed his resolution again, saying, “Winning this show is the shortcut for me to meet my mom sooner. No matter what, I’ll take my mom and dad to Korea”. Eventually, BOBBY became the final winner of “Show Me the Money 3”. He also expressed his love for mom in his rap. The exciting rap of “Connection#Hip-Hop” also expressed BOBBY’s devotion for his family.

See who is on the stage except for you, why a foreign worker without any money and home is more resolved and hard-working.” “Put up with your reality without any future. I wet my smile with my sweat. You’re looking hard at me earning the money. You can never to beyond the sigh and jealousy. In front on these people, I raise my voice and realize my dream, earning the money.” “Being an idol singer, I can play fair to earn much money, to meet my mom again. It had been so hard for my family and it’s now the time to build a house. I don’t care if I don’t win this show or not, just show me the money…”
BOBBY who has missed his family so much is now wide opening iKON’s success, living with his loving family. iKON’s debut single “MY TYPE” swept music charts in and out of the country, proclaiming the birth of new idol group iKON.
Meanwhile, iKON will release “DEBUT HALF ALBUM ‘WELCOME BACK’” on October 1 and “DEBUT FULL ALBUM ‘WELCOME BACK’” on November 2, to begin their performances in earnest. Plus, on October 3, iKON will hold debut concert “SHOWTIME” at the Olympic Gymnastics Hall in Seoul. Of course, BOBBY’s parents will come to the concert, to witness the fancy debut stage of their son BOBBY.
