[Exclusive] iKON to Make a Debut on Sep. 15th
[OSEN=손남원 기자] iKON, YG’s new boy group, is making its debut on the 15th of this month. And the boy group is one of the most anticipated artists in the second half of this year.
“Our main producer YANG HYUN SUK announced that iKON will debut on Sep. 15th and necessary preparations have been under way,” said a YG insider. “Only a handful of people know about specific details. And this is the first time to officially announce the exact date.”
At the interview with OSEN in August, Mr. Yang said, “I have been very busy recently because BIGBANG is scheduled to release new songs every month. It is very, very challenging to film two music videos every month. So I had to make sure that there will be no schedule conflicts between iKON and BIGBANG. And iKON will make their debut on Sep. 15th.” He has certainly delivered on his promise with the fans.
“iKON is a hip hop boy group that we are producing after BIGBANG, so I want to do everything I can in launching them,” he said. “Actually, iKON and WINNER each presented me with 50 songs they wrote. Now, BIGBANG can produce songs that can be released to the public right away, now that it has been 9 years since they made their debut. And even they said on TV that I often rejected their new songs until only a few years ago.”
Last Year, YG produced a powerful rookie. KANG SEUNG YOON, LEE SEUNG HOON, KIM JIN WOO, SONG MIN HO and NAM TAE HYUN won a survival competition, and they debuted as WINNER. WINNER won dozens of trophies from music program and established themselves as an exceptional boy group.
The members of iKON lost the survival competition to WINNER, but they were given another chance. B.I, BOBBY, KOO JUN HOE, KIM DONG HYUK, KIM JIN HWAN, JUNG CHAN WOO and SONG YUNHYEONG will soon make their debut as iKON. They are debuting one year later than WINNER, but expectations of iKON are very high. They are debuting after BIGBANG completed their project, and before PSY makes a comeback.
This is what reflects the good judgment of Mr. Yang as a producer. He is confident that iKON will draw as much attention as BIGBANG and PSY. Mr. Yang is pushing iKON to compete with other artists in YG and become more competitive.
iKON is a very powerful team. Like G-DRAGON of BIGBANG, B.I started writing songs at an early age and is leading the team. The other six members of iKON are talented as well. Many rounds of survival contests and competition among YG artists have made them stronger.
WINNER dominated music charts and won many trophies with their debut song “EMPTY.” And expectations are high of iKON as well. The fans are anticipating their debut and with Sep. 15th just a week away, excitement among them is growing.
