Hyukoh’s Increasing Popularity Thanks to “Infinite Challenge” and TABLO
[OSEN=최나영 기자] Hyukoh, a Korean rock band, is gaining enormous popularity these days.
Hyukoh has been dominating music charts recently despite the releases of new songs by many popular girl groups. As of 7 a.m. of July 22nd, Hyukoh’s “Warigari” ranks No. 1 on Melon, Korea’s largest music website. On Genie and Monkey 3, “Wi Ing Wi Ing,” another song of the group, tops the chart.
Hyukoh is one of the participants of MBC’s “Infinite Challenge Song Festival.” And the recent increase in Hyukoh’s popularity demonstrates the impact of the program.
The members of Hyukoh include Oh Hyuk (vocalist), Lim Dong-gun (bass player), Lim Hyun-je (guitarist) and Lee In-woo (drummer). The band has their distinctive style of music and fashion. And they have been famous among many celebrities and indie music fans. When their songs were released, they did well on music charts because they had a solid base of fans. Nonetheless, it is undeniable that their songs have become widely popular after they appeared in “Infinite Challenge. The program has helped their music appeal to a wider public.
Experts say that Hyukoh’s sophisticated and comfortable music was well-received by young people, in part because of the combination of their novelty and the popularity of “Infinite Challenge.”
In addition to their appearance in the entertainment program, Hyukoh drew a lot of attention once again on July 21st, when HIGHGRND, a label established by TABLO, announced that they scouted the group as the first artist of the label. HIGHGRND declared that Hyukoh has joined them in a teaser video released that day. The fact that Hyukoh joined HIGHGRND shows that the label is not just a hip hop label, but one that covers a wide range of music genres.
One of the biggest reasons why Hyukoh decided to join HIGHGRND is said to be that Hyukoh and TABLO like each other’s music very much. TABLO has been introducing Hyukoh’s music on his radio program, and recently, they worked together for a concert. Hyukoh decided to join HIGHGRND after realizing that TABLO and they share some common musical grounds.
